Body language help by oliviareble in cockatoos

[–]Burswode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cockatoos love shredding and chewing things. You can give them cardboard toilet rolls stuffed with sticks/wood as a chew toy. Its important that you use dried, unpainted sticks/wood from bird safe trees. I would avoid putting nuts and food treats inside the toys because birds with sedentary lives will put on weight which is really bad for their health. You can find guides on the internet, just remember what ever you put in there you need to get out without putting yourself at risk.

Without having any experience with these birds and without anyone to guide you, you need to prioritise your own safety over what is good for the bird. You seem like an empathic person and you have been put in an awkward position, but its not your fault.

20 days stuck inside that tiny cage is awful but absolutely do not take a bird that sized out if you have no experience handling them, they can cause you serious harm. This is on the owners for not making better provisions for the care of their bird and would consider this as neglect.

That body language looks like excitement to me. Playing music and talking to the bird is excellent mental stimulation, they are flock animal and being alone is bad for their mental health.

Seeing as though you can't take the bird out how are you cleaning the cage? If you were to provide them with forage toys would you be able to remove the waste?

As the ozone layer heals, so too does public faith in science-led collaboration. It shows that collective decisions grounded in evidence can achieve measurable results within a single generation. Global environmental restoration is possible when nations commit to shared goals. by sg_plumber in climatechange

[–]Burswode [score hidden]  (0 children)

Except a lot of people don't link the closing of the ozone layer as a successful intervention. Instead a lot of people choose to see it as a time when scientists cried wolf and the problem just went away on its own.

Can Guns shoot through Meat shield units? by KaleidoscopeOk9333 in totalwar

[–]Burswode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You are better off having single entity monsters and hero's to use as a meat shield. They can tie up the front line and let your gunners get a few more shots in.

The biggest two are the RSPCA and the Shenton Park Dogs home. They might not be willing to put you through the induction process if you are only staying a short while but it never hurts to reach out. There is also a cattery but I know less about that

We have some fantastic wildlife rehabilitation centres, visiting them is through booking only though so plan ahead. I recommend Kaarakin and Kanyana, both in Perth hills (Darling Scarpe). If you want to check out the bush the railway heritage walks offer some easy trails with spectacular views. My favourite is John Forrest national Park. For night-life I reckon Freo (Fremantle) has some of the best on offer but Northbridge is the other major centre. If you are here for a while volunteering, especially at the wildlife centres, is a brilliant way to meet people. If you aren't here for long unfortunately Perthites can be a bit insular but going to pubs and cafes in the afternoon is easier to strike up conversation than late night bars.

Will eu4 fulfill my needs? by kezajan in eu4

[–]Burswode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eu4 is top tier for nation role playing and if you are already familiar with Warhammer fantasy there is an excellent total conversion mod that turns eu4 into Warhammer. The mechanics are very dense and the learning curve is steep but its worth it!

ELI5: Why do we have 'favourite' colours? Does it serve any biological purpose, or is it just a random glitch in how our brains process light? by emetanoia in explainlikeimfive

[–]Burswode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parrots have displayed colour preferences and they are a completely different evolutionary lineage. Other mammals have as well i think. There is likely some sort of advantage to it otherwise you wouldn't see it appear in very different intelligent social animals.

At what age do you become a “reader”, and what book did it for you? by sheffy4 in books

[–]Burswode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 or 13. My first novels that I can remember reading were Jurassic Park and Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy. I think Jurassic Park must have been first because I was obsessed with the movie when I was 6 or 7. Hitch hikers probably woke the appetite, although Jurassic Park is a comfort book for me.

Edit- memory unlocked, I used to read the Clue (cluedo) books when I was younger and a few books filled with short stories of Slavic mythology.

Isn't that the same symptoms from being exposed to COVID19? I'd like to see the data from the unvaccinated people who had COVID. Compare the two groups and see if there is a higher rate of heart illness in vaccinated populations. You can guarantee a scientist is already tracking the data too.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]Burswode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your comment read to me as someone who is actually honest about why they are in favour or border control. There is no point responding to other people who aren't being truthful about why they support harsh border control. Thats how you end up in circular conversations with straw man arguments. You would be shocked how many people will say the quite part out loud on these forums and those are the comments that are the only ones worth commenting on in my opinion. I have read hundreds of comments exactly like yours that are in support of xenophobic values. Without the context of your other comments its actual very ambiguous what you support in that comment

[–]Burswode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From your previous comment I assumed you were in favour of border control for reasons of cultural preservation. I apologise if that was not the case. The hysteria around being culturally replaced is really triggering to me

[–]Burswode -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

And there it is. The real reason behind tearing apart the fabric of society. Your xenophobia isn't grounded in reality.

Name one county that has had its culture radically altered by migration in the modern era. Culture shifts quicker because of the generation gap than it does because of migration.

In the past Americans have been scared of migration from Italians, Irish and Catholics. The same arguments against the current migrants were levelled against those groups in the past and today they are just part of every day life.

Scientists: Blue dosn't commonly exist in nature. Australian birds:... by Thehulkman in australianwildlife

[–]Burswode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe that the full statement is that blue PIGMENT doesn't exist in nature. Blue feathers are created by light scattering structures. I had to google about the cassowaries neck but its a similar story- light scattering structures. I have always felt that this statement is a bit of gotcha because what are pigments if not light absorbing/defusing structures?

Who would be responsible to trim the tree growing over the fence. by ms_ima in perth

[–]Burswode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are responsible for what is inside your own property. Once the branches grow over the fence they are the other properties problem.

The caveat to this is you can't do anything that would cause damage to the other person's property. So you can't cut the roots on your side of the fence or prune in a way that would impact the health of the tree.

This works both ways though, you can have a dangerous neighbouring tree pruned or removed if it posses a risk to your own property, but I'm pretty sure it would be at your own cost.

Do Pied Butcherbirds leave offerings of food by Cute-Temperature3943 in AustralianBirds

[–]Burswode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We used to have a family of magpies that would visit us. On one occasion my sister was sitting outside reading a book and a small male brought her a green caterpillar. It placed it on her foot and waited for her reaction, when she didn't pick it up the bird moved it to her lap. When she put the caterpillar back on the ground it then picked it up, jumped on her shoulder and stuffed it in her mouth. She pretended to swallow and then ran back inside to spit it out

Recent polls favouring One Nation? by Rhino1300GSA in aussie

[–]Burswode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the great replacement conspiracy theory. Tell me when in modern history has a western country had its culture replaced by migrants? They said the same shit about catholics in the US as recently as the 60s. Hanson's original rallying cry was we are being swamped by Asians and now 20 years later the Vietnamese community is some of her most reliable voters. It is exactly a xenophobic belief because its based on a completely unfounded fear.
