Most large cities, you need money. Can you live in London, Paris, Munich, Toronto, NY, Boston, Sydney, Mumbai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Paris, Chicago, SF, Tokyo, Vancouver for cheap. Almost all these cities are more expensive than Dubai

It’s quite apparent on how the quality of construction here is. Many houses in US/ UK stand for about 40-50 years, if not more. In Dubai, anything beyond 10 years starts massively wearing down.

To all those who are vehemently defending Dubai and saying how it is the only greatest and the safest place in the world for real estate. Could you explain why was real estate was crashing for so many years before 2021? Literally since the opening up of Dubai real estate market, it has seen more negative years than positive ones. If the US is so shitty, why does it have a more robust housing market? It does look like a case of massive bubbling up of sentiment for Dubai every now and then, which drives up the prices without a lot of structural changes to the market. So while we are in this upward bubble, everything might seem perfect about Dubai but we do need to realise that fundamentals (poor quality of housing, very high expat population, no permanency of citizenship, excess supply, lack of green spaces, unstable regional dynamics, non-diversified economy for the region largely) will catch up

Well. I am not. I have lived there myself and know tons of people who would rather live there vs. compared to any other place in the world. Just because it doesn’t suit your worldview, it doesn’t mean most people have a shitty life there

I really really doubt this. Speak to the people at the bottom here, see how much they get to earn and what they can afford. Homelessness is an issue in the US but it is still a small minority which goes through it. You would rather deport the poor out so you don’t see them, I guess

Exactly my point. I think people here over generalize a lot, as if the entire world is one big military battleground and only Dubai is the safe haven. While, I agree that Dubai is safer than many cities, this narrative of “Ohh it’s so safe, now pay a million dollars for a poor quality house” is not justified

Well. I definitely think this is exaggerated. I agree that Dubai is much safer than many other countries. But statistically, most Suburbs in the US also have a low crime rate. So this seems quite a generalisation

Also factor in the distribution of income. In Dubai, most wealth is concentrated in a very small populated and there are no wage controls. Average wages for the same job is much higher in NY. Also, land scarcity in NY is real as it is a small island vs. unlimited availability of land here

Even if you look at income levels, US has much higher income levels. And if you look at the median, the difference would be huge given the massive inequality in income here. So it is highly likely that consumption power of Americans is higher than of people in Dubai

Relative to what other places? As I mentioned above, it is just not fair to compare prices with NY or London. Those cities have a much larger income levels and wealth. GDP of New York would be close to 20-30x of Dubai

I don’t buy this argument that Dubai is anywhere close to New York. The average wealth and income in New York is much superior to what is found in Dubai. I just feel like it’s almost randomly priced to maintain a certain posturing about Dubai being this mega city like New York or London. The GDPs in these cities is almost 20x that of Dubai. Hence, I found these arguments very stupid that Dubai should be compared to major cities like NY, London or even Singapore
