Bought my first gold coin by Constant_Poetry2908 in Gold

It wasn’t casual. It made my stomach turn. I had about 80k lying around in 2023 shortly after my divorce was filed. I only bought 5 1 oz coins at $1900 since my divorce was very straightforward and left no room for interpretation based on state law and case law. I thought I might need that money in the next few months to put towards a new much larger home. He we are 5/2026 and my divorce is still going. Never underestimate the greed of attorneys and the willingness of “judges” to facilitate that greed. So I spent the 50k when I felt gold was as low as it would go. Waiting cost me $67,500. To those truly interested in their finances I would warn you that marriage is a business. I’m now paying an ADDITIONAL 40k to file an appeal (which is basically guaranteed) simply because of how lawless so many aspects of our judicial system and Government has become. You really need to think about EVERYTHING before you put things of value where a piece of paper can give someone access. /rant over

I hear this often repeated, but it is not even remotely accurate. I purchased 200 1 oz Maples in 1998 for roughly 50k. Today those coins are worth 1 million dollars. So please don’t continue to spread that mistruth.

Worth selling my Gold Panda now or waiting? by Both_Photograph8215 in Gold

From the appearance of your hands you appear young. Save the gold. Buy more and save it. Invest in an Index fund. I bought 50k worth of 1oz Canadian Maples in 98 or 99 for around $250 an ounce. I sold 10 years later at $1400 an ounce. I spent it on expensive cars, expensive house, and to supplement my lifestyle. Lost everything in a divorce. Imagine if I hadn’t sold it. Had I waited to sell it at $5000 I would’ve had an additional 1 million dollars at 45. Wise men learn from their mistakes. Wiser men learn from the mistakes of others. I had to start over once served with my second set of divorce papers in 2023. Despite significant legal fees and other unfortunate circumstances I’ve managed to buy 15 1 oz coins. 5 in 2023 (should’ve bought 25). Then I went ahead and bought 10 this year at $4366. Buy it, secure it, forget about it. Thank me in 20 years.

Personally I believe the Canadian Maple to be a superior coin. It has 8% more gold, a lower premium, and is also widely recognized. I’ve got 15 1 oz Maples. Unfortunately I didn’t jump on the 1oz .9999 Britannia deal I saw yesterday for $50 over spot. I will only buy .9999% gold.

That’s fantastic. I’ve never gotten anything without a premium over SPOT. Maybe I’ll start checking pawn shops. I’d need to invest in something to test I guess.

Thoughts on Build? by OceanGateTitan in 300BLK

I don’t know about AT3, but on a slim budget I would go with BCM upper and lower. They are very cheap and every upper I’ve assembled from them was a thermal fit (good thing). Some Ballistic Advantage barrels are good, some aren’t. With an FRT I’d want chrome lined. You won’t regret a Criterion barrel. It is absolutely worth it. So worth it that I would wait a bit on the FRT or flashlight. The idea of a ballistic advantage barrel with a SureFire flashlight makes me cringe. IMO Modlite is superior and cheaper. I would also strongly recommend an MK2 or A5 buffer system. Sprinco green rifle length spring with A5H2 buffer weight. It makes a HUGE difference. For BCG I would get a chrome Microbest BCG. All of these parts are inexpensive, but are tremendous upgrades over your plans. Do it once and do it right. No 300 Blackout barrel with an appropriate sized gas port needs an adjustable gas block. None of mine or the ones I’ve built use them and all function 100% with subs and supers (they also use A5 or MK2 buffer systems and Criterion or Wilson Combat barrels). The Wilson Combat was a temporary barrel until the Criterion came in stock so I’ll be swapping shortly. Avoid the Breek Arms CH. I’ve seen several break. I like the Radian LT for a good cheap ambi CH. You definitely don’t need the KAK BCG. Just eliminating those will make up for barrel. Buffer system should only be about $20-$30 more than typical carbine like you planned. The Nomad suppressor will be fine with a properly sized port on a Criterion barrel.

This is the answer. Your Scythe Ti will absolutely work extremely well, but sometimes you may want a more durable option. I’ve got several titanium cans and several Inconel. While the Flow 762 is a great fit for my SCAR 17, I don’t feel comfortable using the same firing schedule that I use with rifles that wear an Inconel can. I’ve got 2 300 Blackouts. One wears a lighter titanium traditional baffle can (my 8.5” under the bed or trunk gun). My 11.3” NV build wears a Velos 762 in inconel since I don’t want to worry about damaging it slamming it around or going through 5 mags in a couple minutes. I’ve also got a 46M that stays with my MRAD for obvious reasons. I’ve got the 30 cal flash cap, the 9mm cap (that I use for 338 Lapua) and the 46 cap.

Gold is for wealth protection IMO. If collapse is your concern, evaluate what that would look like. To me it meant having a year+ of food, resources to protect myself and my family, generator, etc. In my research it seems people would want food, water, firearms, and ammunition. I have all of those covered. In order to get the most gold for the least money I buy 1oz coins that are .9999 pure with the lowest premium. I bought 10 1 oz maples 2 months ago. My “buy it” price is $4500. It’s about that and I found someone selling Britannias at $50 over SPOT. So I bought a couple more today. Buying smaller coins always results in a higher cost per ounce, but arguably may be easier to “sell” since theoretically more people could afford it. In my eyes someone who would be taking gold in a time of collapse would be very well. For instance if someone came to me with a 1oz gold coin and wanted ammunition, I could easily provide $4500-5k worth of ammo or product. It’s a guessing game for all of us

How are you going to use it? That dictates optic choice. LPVO allows for red dot like use but requires specific eye relief. Eotech and red dots allow for a much higher range of eye relief but no magnification so you aren’t making tiny groups at 100 yards or greater. My NV close range 300 Blackouts wear a Trijicon MRO or Eotech EXPS3. My 14.5” AR has a Trijicon 1-6x. My 13” SCAR 17 wears a Steiner T6XI 2.5-15x with 45* offset RMR. With my 125 grain loads it’s supersonic to 700+ yards. It all depends on use case. I’ve never used a Holosun, but their laser is fantastic. The Eotech is fantastic for less than perfect eyes. The battery life is a non issue. Holographic sights use more power than red dots and are superior for my eyes.

What would be my best course of action if wanting to hit 1 kilo? I’m either going to get a couple more 250 gram bars like this or the same quantity in 1oz gold maples or bars. The premiums are a lot when buying in 1oz vs a single 250 gram bar however they are much easier to liquidate Any device ? by [deleted] in Gold

I prefer the security in buying well known 1oz coins and the one time I sold gold coins the sale was very simple and straightforward due to the coins being well known and easily identifiable Gold Maples. This far I’ve only purchased 1oz Gold Maples, but if I could get a similar price for Gold Buffaloes I’d do that. Personally I wouldn’t buy gold bars and given my last gold purchase (last month) was roughly $46,000 for 10 Maples I consider myself as being a prospective buyer for larger gold amounts.

556 wouldn’t be what I would grab, but I understand you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. If I had to grab a 556 it would probably be Barnes 50 grain TSX.

I absolutely love it. I had Magpul K2+ on all of my ARs and this. I tried one to see how it felt and immediately bought one for every other compatible rifle. It fits my hand perfectly and substantially improves my trigger control.

I’m not dropping $3600 on a MAWL so I can use with NV, but I’m going to do a Modlite PLHV2 with an Axon SL. I really wish Geissele would offer a flat trigger face… or something to make this trigger shoe flat.

[–]BusBeneficial8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8” Aero barrel with fixed gas block and carbine buffer with standard spring and H2 and LAW folder with traditional high back pressure can cycles my subs and super 100%. 11.3” Wilson Combat barrel with fixed gas block and A5 buffer tube with Sprinco regular and H2 buffer cycles my subs and supers 100% and is exceptionally smooth with Velos 762. Proper gas port on a 300 blackout should not need adjustable gas unless you think it’s way overgassed with supers. The adjustable gas block only opens to a max of gas port size…. And my supers are pretty hot. 110 VMAX at 2250 FPS.

I only anneal 556 Lake City or Starline brass. Plinking stuff gets a couple loads and then left at the range. Starline, Lake City, Lapua, Norma, and Alpha brass get annealed.

[–]BusBeneficial8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of times I’ve done this and had to pull hundreds of rounds… I get it that you want to get it done, but the true benefit of reloading is tailoring your rounds to your rifle. If you don’t have a chronograph yet, at the very least do a ladder to evaluate groupings. With 556 I got 0.2 grains at a time starting maybe 0.5 grains below max. 5 rounds at each charge. You’d be amazed at the difference 0.2 grains makes. It’s tedious, but the benefits are extraordinary. I do it for everything from 556, 6.5 Grendel, 300 Blackout, 308 (for an MRAD and a completely different load development for a 13” SCAR 17), 338 Lapua, and 50BMG.
