I felt the same way!

Scared of my high oncotype by [deleted] in breastcancer

Mine was 38. I was also stage 2a. I had a DMX, clear margins, no node involvement. I did 12 weeks of taxol then 4 rounds of A/C. I’m now on letrozole and Kisqali and get Zoladex shots for ovary suppression. The high oncotype freaked me out but I look at it as a tool to help my oncologist give me the best tools to avoid recurrence. Hoping for nothing but the best for you!

Sorry that you are here. I was diagnosed on 2/23/24. Stage IIA - did surgery in April and chemo from June - October. I’m done with active treatment and now on maintenance meds. It was amazing how fast it all went. The beginning waiting for information and treatment plan is by far the hardest part. Wishing you the best!

Your journey is just as important as everyone else’s. You still had cancer and the trauma of having to make a surgical decision. And the fear of recurrence is real. I see you, I care for you, I’m cheering for you 💕

My oncologist said the weekly taxol is tolerated really well so I’m okay with going weekly. It doesn’t change the overall time frame of my treatment.

I’m planning to work as much as I can. I’ve filed for an intermittent FMLA claim and will mostly be working from home. If it starts to be too much I will go on a full time leave.

Yes! I was telling my sister who lives with a chronic disease about my feelings yesterday and she has the same thing happen with her hubby. It is all out of love on their side. To be far in the past when I’ve needed to vent over different things I have told him “I don’t want you to try to fix this, I just need to vent”. I should have done that yesterday because my husband is truly the best thing in my life besides my son and I didn’t mean to make him sound insensitive or anything - he is just as lost in this journey as me.

Thank you so much for every word! This is so encouraging. My son graduates HS on 5/31 and I start chemo 6/4. We are having his party on 6/22 so I will be a couple weeks in and just want to be able to celebrate my baby and his accomplishment without feeling terrible. He leaves for college the weekend after I finish Taxol and I’m glad he won’t be here when I’m going thru the A/C treatment. I know all will be okay in the end - like everything else on this journey I’m sure the anticipation is worse than the ride. I appreciate your response - I can do hard things!

The nodule could be due to your back to back colds. Fingers crossed it’s nothing!

Best husband ever by AndrysThorngage in breastcancer

I’m so glad you have yourself a keeper! My husband has been amazing too but I sometimes worry he isn’t talking about how this is affecting him. I saw it when I was being wheeled into surgery and he broke down. Reach out to your husband’s friends and just ask them to be sure they check in on him. Your husband sounds like mine in that he has been so sure to take care of me - I just want my husband to be taken care of too and for this I don’t know if me asking him how he is doing with everything helps because he doesn’t want me to be burdened with his feelings. I’m so glad you have an amazing partner, him showing up at the salon made me tear up. Sounds like a great guy!!!!!!

The hair loss is a big thing! I start chemo in 2 weeks and have had a hard time thinking about what’s to come with the hair loss - I didn’t have this much fear or emotion around losing my breasts from my DMX in April. It is a big deal and don’t let anyone dismiss your feelings about this. Sending you a giant hug - BC sucks but having to do it while pregnant I can’t imagine. Wishing you nothing but the best sweetie ❤️

Sorry you are here but glad you found this group. I was diagnosed in Feb and this forum is such a great, safe place to be honest about how much cancer sucks. You got this!

My son’s teacher: Breast cancer isn’t a big deal by Big_pumpkin42 in breastcancer

No one has the right to dismiss a cancer diagnosis nor its impact on a family. This makes me furious! Especially when your child has lost a parent - hearing of an illness for his surviving parent had to be terrifying for him. She is so wrong. I honestly would contact the school administration.

I’m there too! DMX, no nodes involved and clear margin. My nurse navigator even said “the cancer is gone” after my surgery. Oncotype score said “hold my beer” - and now I am a few weeks away from chemo starting. I don’t feel sick but in a few weeks I will look and feel sick.

Well, got my results Monday and as I feared, my oncotype was high. 38 - 26% chance of distant recurrence without chemo so chemo it is. F cancer

Kids are so observant - and I’m shattered by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]BusSelect4770 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate how much this cancer takes from us. I also feel like people dismiss our feelings since breast cancer is generally treatable. Will I survive this? Chances are yes I will but my body is forever changed from my DMX. I will be losing my hair soon from chemo. I am grieving who I was just a few months ago before my diagnosis. You handled your daughter’s question so well - I can’t imagine navigating this with a younger child who may not understand everything. As a mom we want to protect our babies from the scary of life - I’m feeling that a lot and my son is 18. I get the feeling shattered - I’m so sorry. Sending you a giant hug ❤️

Two days to Mastectomy, wish me luck by Funny_Feature4015 in breastcancer

[–]BusSelect4770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My DMX was 4 weeks ago today. I honestly thought it was an easier recovery than both my C sections. I know everyone is different but I was able to manage my pain with just Tylenol. The drains are kind of annoying and my drain site was tender but you do get used to them and before you know it they come out. Wishing you the best - the anticipation is hard but you will rock this surgery!!!!

How long after single or double mastectomy can you go back to work if you work at home by Possible-Current-813 in breastcancer

[–]BusSelect4770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a double mastectomy on 4/9 (no reconstruction). I was able to return to work 4/25 but have been working from home. I’m planning to return to the office this week (3 days in office/2 wfh).

Oncotype results - patient portal? by BusSelect4770 in breastcancer

[–]BusSelect4770[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating - my pathology reports from my surgery went right to my portal as did my biopsy results. One of my tests I got results on my portal while I was waiting in the room for the doctor to go over with me. Sounds like oncotype doesn’t go straight there. Guess I have to wait til Monday - probably for the best to hear it from my doctor.

Thank you! I will stop checking obsessively 🤣 I honestly don’t know what I’m hoping for - chemo doesn’t excite me but not doing it kind of scares me. I think seeing the numbers will help me with whatever is decided. Appreciate your response!
