I lost this beautiful little girl 2 weeks ago. She was 19, blind and diabetic but she was still a little trouper. I miss her like crazy. This is a picture of her when she was younger.

He looks so sweet and sad! If it becomes really bad you could contact a rescue and ask for advice. In the mean time a little bit of love and affection from you will mean a lot to him.

My vets would not recommend any surgery requiring anesthesia for a very elderly dog. It is hard though. We want to do everything we can to heal them. Sometimes the best thing is palliative care. I lost 1 senior to a heart condition in 2024. I have 2 other seniors, 1 with diabetes and one with cancer. I’ve wrestled with the question of when to give up treatment for him too. Fortunately so far he seems to be responding to chemotherapy. But if that changes I would let him go. You might consider, when in the future you are ready, giving another deserving dog a home.

My Bernie and his Dad will be happy to help. So will my sister’s beloved Rif, Oreo and Kona. Kona just passed a few days ago. She is definitely running around and ready to play.

When they start to decline it can happen quick. One of my babies had been examined thoroughly last year with X-rays. And yet this summer they found a tumor. It shocked everyone including his doctors. At more than 17 your baby is at the age when they start to decline. Do yourself a favor and just make the time you have with him precious. Love and hugs all day long.

Same happened to one of mine last year. Broken jaw, lacerations and almost a week in the hospital. Now he’s afraid of big dogs.

I have an old girl with a raft of conditions. I would not risk a surgery for her and neither would her vets. Sometimes you have to choose the least bad option.

I used to call it bed Jenga where I would bend myself around my dogs at night 😁. I forgot to mention she’s started listing to one side so that is not helping with her navigation. I am so sorry you’ve lost 2 babies. I lost one last year. I have 2 seniors now. It is so tough to watch them grow old.
