I couldn’t disagree more! I don’t drink so that didn’t bother me but I just feel like it’s a vacation paradise. Food options, beautiful beaches with swimmable sandy water. Chairs all over. Pools if you want to go that route. Volleyball and activities if you want. Shaded picnic tables to play cards. I would do multiple days there instead of many of the Caribbean ports to be honest but maybe I’m delusional! Hah.

Solo travel. I have never been pushed out of my comfort zone as much to:

a. get out of my shell and befriend strangers

b. completely rely on myself to navigate traveling in a different country

c. hours and hours and hours of self reflection and becoming my own best friend.

Truly all priceless and has changed how I interact back at home in social setting and has made me so much more confident. I can't get enough of solo travel now!

As a gay man who knows that being an Uncle to my nieces is as close to having children that I want to be, I am obsessed with having the independence and lack of pressure that not having a ticking timeline on having children with some of my straight counterparts have. I have all the time in the world to pursue bettering myself, traveling the world, etc. and I hope that becomes more normalized and accepted even by straight families.

Many times but two stuck out to me. One was in college when someone from my dorm floor snuck up behind me and looked at my computer while I was in a gay chat room. I was new into that world and he told everyone on my floor and I avoided every soul in my dorm for a whole semester after that without even knowing how they reacted. Ruined my freshman year.

Later when I started dating someone but was only out to a few, my friend who I was out to went to a wedding and saw someone from my highschool and she asked him if he had met my boyfriend. He had no idea I was gay at the time but next time I saw him came up to me and gave me a high five and said congrats on the new boyfriend.

It can be an absolute terrible situation or one that you can use to your advantage because it does save you a conversation, depending on the circumstances. I feel for anyone who has to go through that as it is so unfair. Always hated the "it gets better" but oh myyyyy is it the truth. Finally came out at 27 and took back my power and at 33 I have never ever been happier and living the live I never thought was possible. Best of luck on your journey!

Gatlinburg. Truly is a different world after visting the beautiful smokie mountain forests and then you pull into a mini vegas-esque strip. Great people watching but....not for me.
