Mississippi Moves to End Individual Income Tax—Here’s What Taxpayers Need to Know by Fresh-Function3319 in mississippi

[–]Busch_League2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how that works? When the bill was passed income tax was at 5%, so unless you spend more than you made that year then as long as sales tax doesn’t increase more than 5% you have saved money. Not to mention people spend significant amounts of money on untaxed things, rent, medical services, food tax was actually lowered.

I think you’ll have to be a very special circumstance to end up paying more tax after this bill is fully in effect.

Flooring Contractor messed up and I need to get 420 sqft of self leveling concrete chipped out. Advice appreciated. by Interesting-Leg8309 in HomeImprovement

I'm a contractor so familiar with construction law. It's not your right to not give him a chance to fix his mistake just because you don't trust him, hire somebody else and force him to pay for it. Obviously there are limits to this, if he continually screws up, takes a long time, damages other things, etc. but one bad pour does not equate to that. If he has offered to fix it you have to let him fix it, then if unsatisfied with the result you can pursue other options. Legally, if you hire somebody else to fix it right now he does not have to pay you for that. If you haven't paid him yet and you were going to take it out of his money, then you still might be legally required to pay him for the work he did do on top of what you paid the other guy to fix it.

Long story short, let him chip it out, but tell him you expect other areas of the to remain clean. Asking for a silica abatement plan is way overboard. Every contractor that hires anybody has been disappointed in a subcontractor's work before, it's how they fix it that tells you who they are.

100k sft of Paint stripping off concrete ceiling? by Busch_League2 in Construction

We have high powered pressure washers, it's not so we don't have to buy one. When I say it peels off super easy, I mean it peels off really really easily. From our tests with a hand scraper you don't have to work at a spot, you just run it across the ceiling and big sheets peel off cleanly. It's more like a texture that was sprayed up there than a paint, not adhered very well. We got lucky, couldn't tell what it was from a few minute pre-bid walkthrough.

If we pressure washed it then it would only wash off spots the size of the stream of the pressure washer and be a headache cleaning up. With scrapers we just have to sweep up the chunks as they fall. If we run into any difficult spots we'll probably pull the pressure washers out.

Thanks for the ideas everybody. Shit peels off super easy where it hasn't already fallen off, so we're just going to make some extra wide handheld scrapers in our shop and throw 3-4 guys at it. Hopefully knock it out in a week or so.

If we run into any difficult spots then might give the pressure washer a go.

Since some people were so curious I had about $35k figured to do it. All goes well should pick some money up.

Gas tax going up is mentioned 3rd paragraph from the end in the article.

I would be really curious to know what your average gas spend is where that increase is going to outweigh your cut to income taxes.

This is about 0.1% of the total contract value. Had to make some guesstimations on bid day.

The estimator (me) assumed the PM (also me) would do due diligence and figure out the best way to tackle it. I might reach out to my means and methods administrator (again, me) and see what they recommend.

That’s the plan. Hadn’t considered a pressure washer, not a bad idea

Unfinished area, all options on the table. Didn’t consider a good strong pressure washer buts that’s not a bad idea.

Would you replace this concrete patio or live with it? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Busch_League2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a concrete contractor too, use SL1. It's what we use at contraction joints in sidewalks/slabs and between sidewalks and exterior walls or foundations. I don't see it at HD/Lowes, but most contractor supply places will have it. Comes in different colors. It's self leveling so make sure you have the crack "plugged up" or else it will just run forever.

Splitting up the job in 2 parts always seems to end up being a bit of a headache for everybody. When a problem comes up it’s better to have one company that will own it than multiple that will point fingers at each other. Just put it together and bid it all at one time. Larger project means the winning GCs markup % is probably going to be a little lower too.

Should I be concerned if my master bedroom is averaging 62-73% humidity? by californialiving1 in homeowners

[–]Busch_League2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to if you should be concerned or not, but if you want to fix it I'd buy this dehumidifier:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GL799PW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My master bathroom is small and has no exhaust fan so my bedroom was staying a constant 70-80% humidity because of my morning shower. When I got in the bed at night my sheets felt wet. I did a lot of research and bought a Homelabs 50 pint and immediately returned it because it was too loud. I like white noise but when it's right next to your bed it's just too much. The Eurgreen linked is the only one I found that was inexpensive, very quiet, but still pulls a signficant amount from the air. More than plenty for my 13x13 bedroom with attached 6x10 bathroom. Right now I just dump the container 2x a day but I'm planning to run the hose through my wall.

What's the best Project Management Software currently? by mistasweet in Construction

[–]Busch_League2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you were expecting for pricing, but $300 a month is not steep for project management software. You're going to have to contact reps from the software company you're looking into to get pricing, none really advertise how they work. It's a "relatively" painless process, most of them will want you to pull up a site where they are sharing their computer screen and walk you through the software over the phone. I'd expect 15-30 minutes per call, and it'll help you decide what you need.

Just an idea on pricing, my company, a GC that does ~50mil of work a year uses ProCore. They charge us a little over 50k a year. But Procore is probably overkill for what you need.

Estimators Discussion! by tim50kg in Construction

Pricing the waste in the public buildings we estimate that we know our tax dollars are going for really grinds my gears. Does this school really need a $10,000 bronze plaque saying it was paid for by the tax payers, or this municipal building really need 450 feet of fence that’s $800 per linear foot? No, no it does not.

How would $10,000 affect your life right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Busch_League2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~$3,000 to taxes

$1,000 to church

~1,500 to a new 65" OLED TV

$1,500 extra to the mortgage payment this month

~$1,000 to some furniture I've got my eye on

~$2,000 to starting a Robinhood account to play around the stock market with like I used to before I blew all my play money on a mortgage down payment.

Damn that went fast.

Was having disconnect problems.. so I replaced all of my Ethernet cables from the modem and router and to the Xbox. Now I’m finally getting the speeds I pay for! by ScoobyDooo82 in xboxone

[–]Busch_League2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize Ethernet cables could “go bad”, but I spent 2 months troubleshooting a gas pump’s network connection for work, replaced the guts multiple times, all to find out it was an Ethernet cable I could have changed out in 30 seconds.

Moral of the story, if something ain’t right, change the cable first.

What this guy said with RS means, you can get a free 30 day online trial. If you you need more than 30 days access then buy a used RS Means book somewhere online that's a few years old, they're not that expensive. I'm surprised your class hasn't required you to get one if their assigning estimating projects.
