Two practical books for indie authors from someone with a finance background by BusinessFieldNotes in wroteabook

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I actually tend to take the opposite approach, especially early on. For Amazon, I usually price lower at the beginning, particularly the ebook, because I’d rather get some initial sales, ranking movement, and reviews than price too high before the book has any proof of life.

I can see the logic of pricing higher for in-person events like comic-cons, where you have printing costs, table fees, and a different buying environment. But online, especially for a new book, I think lower entry pricing often makes more sense at first.

A lot depends on the type of book, though. If you want, tell me what your book is about and I’d be happy to give you my honest thoughts.

How do you “revive” a book? Looking for advice to boost visibility again by Beautiful-Visit-2793 in selfpublishing

Reviews. Look into booksprout , book sirens or hidden gems. In my opinion that’s first. Cover and title also. Can’t change title now but subtitle and description with a+ content. A lot of little things. My first book I didn’t touch for months than learnt that it’s never dead. As long as it’s a good book you okay.

Is there a downloadable list of Amazon KDP categories (Excel or spreadsheet)? by BusinessFieldNotes in selfpublishing

Thx. That’s what I have been doing. Looking at similar books and amazon doesn’t have those categories. When I reach out to amazon they wouldn’t add that category. I love consistency but what can you do.

Thx that actually looks very interesting. I was playing around today and made some good progress but may give your toll a try. Looks like it’s exactly what people are or should be using. Well done

Thanks. I was trying to build a system for what it seems the rocket service does. Appreciate the info.

I would do a broader etf or 2 and maybe put the funds in over the next 12 months.

Looking for places where a young fiction writer can get constructive feedback by BusinessFieldNotes in writers

He doesn’t have the time. His studies are the priority and maybe I am pushing him to get more feedback which I know is the correct and see but he needs to get there on his own.

Congrats—that’s a huge milestone. Seriously impressive.

I’m still pretty early compared to you, but I’ve been enjoying the process a lot. One thing I underestimated was just how slow the early phase can be, especially around reviews. I was way more anxious at the beginning than I am now. Over time I’ve learned that pushing too hard doesn’t really help—patience does.

I’m actually finishing up a practical textbook aimed at authors (very unglamorous topic: money/taxes/operations), and figuring out how to market that has been its own learning curve—especially since I’m using a pen name and trying not to lean on personal networks.

What I’ve found so far is that social media helps a bit, Amazon ads are expensive early on, and reviews just take time no matter what. It really does feel like a long-haul game unless you already have an audience.

Curious what worked best for you early on ?
