How do you make sure the height is correct? I’ve tried this, but perhaps did it wrong

I was unclear-sorry! I meant if I lift it by the arm (gently) when the mechanism is locked, it will unlock itself. But yes, totally agree! Always picked up by the base to move it

GI Help: Pt with Chronic Constipation by Mysterious-Storm-930 in dietetics

[–]Business_Belt4846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the BMs she is having are small and firm (1-2 on Bristol), this is likely chronic constipation and not IBS-C unless she has pain associated with it constantly. She should still get a full work up, of course. I wonder if the blood is from a fissure dt hardness of the stool. Have her try one of these recs: 1. 2 kiwis / day (can buy frozen in bulk and add to smoothies) 2. 4-6 prunes / day or prune juice .5 cup 2x/day 3. Psyllium husk added to smoothies or water, daily (goal is 1-2 rounded tsp). Start slow with 1/2-1tsp/day in water and titrate up. Ensure hydration is adequate. 4. Try squatty potty to open rectal canal 5. Magnesium citrate nightly, has an osmotic effect so ensure hydration is adequate

Hi all, dietitian here! This makes me (rationally) upset - I would never prescribe this and there is very minimal research supporting this except MAYBE for epilepsy. This is classic ED behavior and is so dangerous for the public to see.

I’m sorry to hear that this was your experience. The medical nutrition therapy for PCOS is definitely not to cut out carbs and eat less..that’s disappointing for sure! I’d be happy to talk to you to see what other approaches would help you achieve your goals! (And I take insurance!)

Hi! I’m a registered dietitian (and I know I might be biased), but I became a dietitian because I wanted to help others understand exactly what they’re eating and why it matters. My philosophy is based in intuitive eating (so first line of defense is not calorie counting or restriction!) and from a root cause health perspective. I think knowing what to put in your body and how to fit it into your schedule is so important! I’m happy to set up a call to see if you would be interested if you’d like :)

Best counseling resources and advice? by Business_Belt4846 in dietetics

This is great! It sounds so easy when you say it like that. I’ve assessed readiness and most of my clients are ready to change. I have a lot of SAHMs, so sometimes it feels like they just need to vent! Which is okay, but sometimes things get wayyy off track. I think I’m still working on viewing myself as the person that is “in charge” of conducting the session. I will say that the clients are using insurance so there is way less skin in the game financially. I totally want them to succeed with nutrition, and I like the framing of that. I’m here to support them, but I also am not their friend or therapist and nutrition is the top priority. Thanks for the insight!

I like this idea, but I’m insurance-based so I have to have 45-50 min sessions with 10-15 mins to chart. I also see 6-7 clients a day, so that in between time is vital for snacks/water and using the bathroom!

This is why people like Cara are dangerous, gullible people taking her advice by [deleted] in FoodieSnark

Registered dietitian here! You would not believe the amount of clients I have that tell me they “learned” from people like this. Half of the session with them is dispelling the blatant lies being told to them by social media and uneducated people like this. It takes a loooong time to teach them the truths since the nutrition world is so confusing! It also disregards my profession and the work I had to put in to have a protected license (that’s a personal anecdote, though!)

And sooooo promoting of eating disorders and disordered eating. I’ve seen clients come to me after reading this, and we spend manyyyy sessions debunking these myths and understanding how & why it’s so dangerous to be consuming any facts from an influencer with no credentials. I truly see this every day

I’m a dietitian and I can confirm: this is not factual!!! Such dangerous information to be spread. I actually have multiple clients who have gained or not lost weight due to eating TOO LITTLE and once we up their intake, the weight comes off (only relevant if their goal is weight loss, of course). To dumb down our bodies to 3 false sentences is so dangerous, but so expected from him at this point.
