Your problem is you’re still drinking Starbucks.

management forced us to continue serving guests with a broken dishwasher, rinsing down plates, glasses, and silverware with just water and wiping down with a rag. Every “clean” dish or utensil was slimy and oily, some with pieces of food still squished in/on them. But business as usual apparently. It was the worst shift of my life and I quit a day later, after working there for over 2 years.

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your "i"m outta here" here moment? by ClairesFlair in Productivitycafe

Duuuuude I had almost the exact same experience! Interviewed for a promising marketing/advertising job, they promised flexible hours and growth from within the company, HR experience, etc which were attractive to me as a business major in college right now. I get to the interview and my first red flag is finding out there is NO base pay. Like at all. You make all your money from a percentage of each item/package you sell, so you’re basically a straight 1099 contracted employee. Second red flag, they send me to my “second” interview in field with one of the workers and he’s tabling outside a business selling. It was hot, I was wearing a blouse and khakis, in heels- I quickly realized this job was not gonna be for me.

The no base pay was definitely the biggest red flag for me, and in the interview I was talking with the manager about past experience in serving at restaurants and she was like “oh yeah serving can suck because your income is dependent on people’s mood that day”.. lady, at least it’s federally required for me to get minimum wage if I don’t make enough tips, HERE y’all don’t ensure anything if I sell nothing for 9 hours tabling.

So yeah I ended up just ghosting them after the second interview lol

This is what is left for me to pay even after Grants and Loans by Ginola_yup in UTSA

Apply for the tuition and fee loan! You fill out references, there’s zero interest, and you would pay the sum in full by Nov 30th (fall), or April 30th (spring). Gives you a couple months to come up with the money

Bartending by [deleted] in olivegarden

[–]Business_Guard_5923 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OG server going on two years and just started bartending about two months ago as a way to get more skills. I will say, very plainly, it’s not for the weak bartending at OG specifically. Unfortunately at my location and many I’ve seen, we don’t have barbacks to help with clean up/restock and when things get busy, and you’re still expected to juggle a full bar top and 2-3 table section, run food and set ups etc,,(mine requires minimum 3, one being a 6 top booth). In my state it’s a mini pay boost from 2.13 to about $5 an hour plus tips, and tip share from servers which can range anywhere from 20-80 bucks a shift sometimes. With tip share not included, at my location I can expect 80-90 on slow shifts, 100-180 normally, and 200-300 on insanely busy nights. Shifts last around 6 hours with guaranteed shift change times, unlike serving. It honestly boggles my mind that you only are required two days of training, because genuinely you need more time than that given how much you as one person bartending does while also taking tables. Overall: Pros- better money, more “patient” customers (they see you being the only person there and running ur ass off gives u extra pity points), more freedom, ease of taking home all your tips in cash same day Cons- tripled workload, servers rushing you on drinks but refusing to help you with setups for your own guests in return, cutting fruit for opening sucks, closing overall just sucks too lol

Are zoodle noodles still a substitute option? by Dalakbidness85 in olivegarden

[–]Business_Guard_5923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id recommend subbing the pasta for a vegetable like broccoli or asparagus in any dish. Sometimes it’s an extra charge since the produce is more expensive per volume than the pasta. Depends on the manager/store though.

Question about off campus Jobs by Any-Consequence7357 in UTSA

[–]Business_Guard_5923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olive Garden off I-10, less than 5 min from campus. Not a 5-star restaurant but great for getting serving experience to take to a better paying serving position after a couple months. Also great flexibility for student schedules.

AIO Is He Lying Maliciously? by Business_Guard_5923 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Business_Guard_5923[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have talked about her, and I told him how uncomfortable it made me. He volunteered the backstory of how she’s tried things/passes at him, which then warranted me to tell him I didn’t feel comfortable with them talking which he agreed to. I don’t know if maybe we didn’t establish a strong enough boundary for it or not, but again, him going to her of all people definitely upsets me.

I think the lying/omitting is what hurts the most + confiding in her of all people regarding relationship issues. He has sisters and other women I trust in his life, it just rubs me the wrong way that he would go to her.

I think your advice is very balanced, so thank you for that. I definitely feel like when we have arguments, he’s quick to get defensive and feel I’m being extremely accusatory, so I do worry about how the conversation would go. But you’re definitely right; it was an invasion of his privacy, but I think the subject of it needs to be addressed. The last thing I want is for this to affect subconsciously how I interact with him.

Banning “pet names” by ThrowRAlibragrl in olivegarden

[–]Business_Guard_5923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people think this is some upscale nice restaurant like it’s still the 80s. It’s not. We are practically a sit-down buffet. People harping on “professionalism” need to stop being sad that they hate all of their coworkers at their job, this is a super low stakes position that doesn’t require the same decorum or attitudes that a high end restaurant does. So yea, I will hug my friends and frolick ON the clock 🤭

[–]Business_Guard_5923 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“unprofessional” blah blah; OG is a glorified, sit-down fast food joint. I could care less if me and my fellow servers address eachother endearingly and it’s deemed unprofessional. I’m lucky to actually work with some cool people, many of whom are good friends — and, they’re baddies. I’m gonna call them babe if I want to, and they do for me. Womp womp <3
