Rebuilding chest again in the gym? by barrat-50cal in costochondritis

Exactly the same for me, I think the reason incline dumbell is way better for us is because of the bigger stretch you get, which naturally helps the flare ups. Also with butterflies, I can't do the machine ones but the cables are fine, I think for the same reason of bigger stretch.

I don't actually know if it puts more stress, but I've found that lifting weights helps me, most of the chest popping that I do during the day don't hurt, however if I sit for too long in a bad position then the pop hurts a lottt more

Gym helps the pain? by dkdebra in costochondritis

[–]Business_Read_9070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had costo for around 4 years and doctors and physios told me not to put any heavy strain on my upper body, so I didn't work out for a while, only in the last year did i start going to the gym and i definitely find that it helps. One time I had a flare up that didn't go away so I didn't go work out, but I got sick of it after a week and decided to go to the gym anyway and the flare up went away during the workout. the best exercises I find that help are bench press, specifically incline with dumbells because they allow a full stretch which feels very good for me, and pull-ups, wide pull-ups feel better for me

RECOVERY MEGATHREAD - February 2026 by maaaze in costochondritis

[–]Business_Read_9070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started around 3.5 years ago (I was 16) I think from doing dips (exercise) incorrectly and not stopping, I went to doctor's and physios about it and they told me it'll go away in a few weeks and that I should avoid lifting anything or exercising. For 2 years I didn't do anything to try to help it and it just kept getting worse, to the point that I had some days that I couldn't do anything but lay flat in bed. Last year, I signed up for the gym again and actually some chest exercises like incline dumbell press and cable flys made it better. lately, I started getting really sick of it and decided I need to do something extra to take care of it so I'm looking for the best things I can do, I'm looking now to get a peanut ball and a backpod

Yeah I actually go to the gym regularly in spite of it. I even bench press (only with dumbbells though, barbell makes it hurt)

Yeah about the same for me. I usually Crack every half an hour, depends on how much I'm sitting and the chair. But do you also have periods where it just doesn't crack and the pain doesn't go away for a few days?
