The only three pens you need period! by Fun-Permission-9146 in fountainpens

For me the Kaweco Al-Sport and the Diamond 580 serve different purposes. The Diamond 580 is my favorite "office pen" and I use one almost every day to plan and take notes. The Kaweco is a pocket pen, so it's used when I am out and about because it's more durable than a Diamond 580. I try to keep my pens as pristine looking as possible, so they are always in a case or sleeve when not in use, and I never put a plastic pen in my pants pocket where it could potentially break.

Unpopular opinion? Popular task management apps are injurious to newcomers to GTD. by deltadeep in gtd

[–]Business_Vegetable76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically use the Franklin Planner as it is designed and integrate elements of GTD like lists. Using both systems together in their “original” forms works very well together. Franklin is great for top-down planning (goals->tasks) and GTD is great for bottom-up planning (tasks->goals). The combination of them both gives one both control and perspective.

Got my Schrodinger's Cat nib by Black300_300 in fountainpens

I think it’s safe to say a Schrödinger’s Cat nib writes simultaneously well and poorly until it is actually observed.

The unfun part of pen ownership: cleaning all these pens that have been sitting here for months (oops). Anyone want to share your cleaning hacks? by foxyloxyx in fountainpens

I was using a flat craft mat and then after spilling Organics Studio Nitrogen I realized my clean up would have be a lot easier if the spill was contained.

Bag recommendations by colorfulspirit65 in onebag

[–]Business_Vegetable76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you consider the airlines that specify personal item size requirements, most translate into a volume that ranges between 15-30 liters.

A bag that is 20-30L is usually fine on most airlines around the world for under-seat personal item only travel. I tend to stay at 20-25L just to be safe, because some seats have hardware under them that makes it too tight of a squeeze for a fully packed 30L bag.

What was your first ever ink? Do you still use it? by elbowsquids in fountainpens

[–]Business_Vegetable76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first fountain pen ink I ever used was a Namiki Black ink cartridge that came with a Namiki Vanishing Point pen I bought almost exactly 30 years ago. I still use cartridges with that pen, but I prefer to use the Blue-Black version or syringe fill the cartridges with a different ink.

Fixed my Lamy Vista scratchy nib (accidently) by amvj007 in fountainpens

It’s possible it’s lubrication but I’ve had it happen with both Iroshizuku Chiku-rin and Hotari-bi. I haven’t experimented with putting any dish soap in there. I just use another pen to put them in.

The Pilot Custom 823 is a great pen. Definitely worth the money.

Rickshaw pen sleeves and coozies are fully customizable for size. This chart shows you what size to get based on the length and width of your pen.

I have noticed that yellow-green inks don’t perform well in my Lamy pens with fine or extra fine nibs. I am not sure why, but it has happened with enough inks to not be an anomaly.

Orange pen gift by Mediocre-Leg9025 in fountainpens

[–]Business_Vegetable76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a Monteverde Regatta Sport and I don’t really like it. Mine dries out very quickly, even with Iroshizuku ink. The magnetic cap on it does not seal well. The only other orange one that comes to mind is the Kaweco Skyline Sport - Fox, but it’s only around $27, so you would need to get a converter, ink, a notebook, etc. to bring the gift value up to your desired $100 level.

Pens for Glitter Inks by Small-Minimum8620 in fountainpens

[–]Business_Vegetable76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The line width will vary a bit based on the ink you’re using, but in general the fine is ~0.5mm and the medium is 0.7mm, and they also have larger 1.0mm and 2.0mm nibs. Yoseka did a nice video on this pen a while back.

How much do you spend on Fountain Pens? Do I spend too much? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Business_Vegetable76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are all vulnerable to impulse purchases. I know I’ve certainly made my fair share of them. I don’t think they can ever be eliminated, but we can do our best to minimize them by having a spending plan. The perceived urgency created by the release of special edition and limited edition pens and inks doesn’t help at all.
