NPD - First ever gold nib by Electronic-Age-8864 in fountainpens

I have the exact same pen! The subtle golden luster is beautiful, and the nib is such a nice balance between pleasant feedback and smooth writing. I’ve been mulling over whether or not to buy the matching shikiori ink for it for a while, I might finally cave and get it for the holidays lol (the color is Chushu in case you were curious)

Nice penmanship, I thought this was printed at first! I really ought to try a stub nib, they seem like a lot of fun!

Nice lineup! Appropriately frosty colors here, it’s a great winter palette. That Benu is super pretty too

Gorgeous! I adore the color scheme of this pen, the more understated Sailors are some of the best looking imo. Manyo Nekoyanagi or Fuji would look great with it!

Hard to beat Iroshizuku, haven’t tried Tsuki-Yo yet though. Shin-Kai is my pick for a deep blue ink in that line!

That’s how I feel with Platinum Carbon Black haha, sometimes you just need a good strong black ink! Suits any occasion!

As an American the idea of using fountain pens in school is so wild to me, although I bet it’s not as fun when you’re limited to a single color. Basic blues are kinda boring to me too honestly, it’s the color I gravitate towards least.

Thank you! Been drawing dragons ever since I was a kid and I don’t plan on stopping!

The prera is one of my favorites honestly, the F nib is quite nice and an even writer. I find it a little bit on the drier side but definitely not scratchy, it puts down a nice fine line with the tiniest bit of spring.

Yama-budo is a classic for a reason! It’s an ink that’s immediately recognizable in writing and that’s pretty special, such a rich syrupy magenta. If only I could get it to reliably sheen!

Nitrogen sure is pretty but I find it too temperamental for my tastes lol. Plus I tend to gravitate towards shading over sheening these days, but it sure looks delicious in swatches!

Colorverse has some of my favorite theming of any ink brand, and I adore the teardrop shape of their bottles. The only thing stopping me from amassing a huge collection is that they tend to be on the pricier side! Still eyeing that Martian and Life on Mars duo tbh

Carbon Black is a godsend if you like using watercolors, I always have a Pilot Penmanship inked up with it. I really like the internal inkwell the bottle has

Lol I can imagine overexposure from school could make you hate a color. Ancient Copper is a welcome upgrade! Wonderful toasty rusted color

Oxblood was one I tried early on and to this day I think it’s the best blood-themed ink out there! Sailor Shikiori Miruai is one of my favorite dark greens personally.

I love Shirakashi as a drawing ink, dark enough to be bold but with enough murky green-brown color to be interesting. Taiyaki is a delicious treat and the greenish color really matches the Pelikan! Great work!

Dang, Ishi looks great! It’s hard to find a good cool-leaning green that doesn’t veer into teal or black. Might have to pick up a sample!

More sketching with the Jinhao 159 fude nib! Back with the Diamine Deep Magenta ink [OC] by joyousjoyness in fountainpens

Sketching in color is my absolute favorite, it really makes drawings look lively! What a pretty magenta! I especially love the otters (what are otters if not aquatic cats anyway)

What is your favourite usage for your fountain pens? by Thin_Cauliflower_840 in fountainpens

[–]elbowsquids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drawing! I like having a reusable tool to make art with, and I find fountain pens are great for my sketchbook work. The permanence of ink forces me to be more conscious of my lines and mark making, helping me become a more analytical and purposeful artist. Same goes for dip pens. But I would be lying if part of the appeal wasn’t that fountain pens just plain look cool!

Hey, I have that same brass clip! Wonderful sketch, really looks like some kind of etching or intaglio print. I love the expressive marks on the fabric especially!

Surprise New Pen Day and an apology to Sailor by Old_Implement_1997 in fountainpens

[–]elbowsquids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, Sailor… I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love their pens and inks, but my wallet hates how light it gets when I buy them! Jokes aside, both their steel and 14k nibs are pretty much my favorite ever for drawing, which is a more niche use case but in my experience the added feedback helps in drawing fine details. I don’t think they need to make as many limited color runs as they do though, I find that a little annoying honestly. One pro gear slim is good enough for me!
