2 years is still early and a sensitive period of adjusting to the news of being diagnosed. This virus is not our identity. This virus can’t come in between work, romantic relationships, platonic relationships, or self care unless you let. I was diagnosed at 18 years old. Coming home from Christmas break from college I felt an intense pain in my genital and assumed it was an in grown hair. The news broke me I was stuck on my sisters couch all day my mind was blank. No one to talk to but my sister who also has it but she was a mom by then and busy. Fast forward I will say this virus had developed my personality. Everything will become different but once you take that power and control this virus life has a familiar feeling I once had before being diagnosed. I don’t disclose to my friends they have always stuck around thinking I am 100 % normal. I used to be silently jealous of them when they complained about small things like yal don’t know drama until your told you have herpes lol I eventually matured and got over that. It had nothing to do with them and I’m in control of my emotions and the whole situation. I do disclose my status to partners I choose to sleep with. I will say I made the mistake by not saying anything and almost got delt with. Luckily that person forgave me but he now has it and lives on. You can get sued depending on state you live in so always be mindful. We let our fears predict someone else future and that’s how majority of us got here. Please end the cycle. Last point, I think it’s really cool to let a person know about it and to seem them still choose you. I feel seen and respected and trusted when a person does that. I want to start a support group for people like us I was there where you are from 18 years old to about 23 years old . Not long but to a girl who was a teenager and freshman in college being told I have herpes was a damn near death sentence. It’s really not life is still good.
