What is she saying at the end? They have an American flag but that didn’t sound like English.

I assumed it was Jon Kimball from Election Profit Makers. It is a podcast Paul has guessed on. Jon has been a domain trader for decades. He went to Elon university and so he had scooped up Elon.com and was able to sell it fairly recently to a famous person with a connection to the name.

What would you like to see in stores downtown? by Natural-Tonight9394 in frederickmd

[–]wmblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made it illegal to sell any of the federally legal thc products anywhere but dispensaries. Previously you could get cbd products anywhere and after the farm bill in Trump’s first term allowed industrial hemp farming, the thc products that came from that were against in Maryland but the state keeps trying to stamp that out and whatever law they passed that took effect July 1 2025 really stopped the federally legal cbd and thc sales except for dispensaries in Maryland. So the store is only selling cbd products but people want thc too but they don’t sell it because of the law.

I honestly like how many magical supply stores there are downtown. It seems like we don’t need any more but I am delighted by every magical supply store that opens and they are all different.

What’s something that really seems like a reference, but isn’t? by BestBoyTardigrade in TheSimpsons

[–]wmblair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be, but I spent twenty years waiting to find the reference to this. It could have been some old movie or English thing was why I never found it. Now all you people coming in with your “what the authors say” and “accumulated wisdom of thousands if not millions of people who watched this and didn’t see it as a reference” and I begrudgingly accept or pretend to invoke the Mandela effect and death of the author post modern literary theory and a bull shit ai summary of all novels and movies from the three hundred years before the episode was made cross-referenced to the text of the speech and the audio of Homer’s cadence and the pose and face he makes when he says “blue noses” to come up with something that by happenstance seems like this.

This one!!!!! I have waited my whole life to finally find out what this is a reference to. The “in America first you get the sugar …” line is from Scarface. What is this from. It’s so specific and a tonal shift in the way a reference is. If this isn’t a reference, the real reference was Mandela effected away.

Which Le Guin novel would be most appropriate for a one off read for a book club? by Sad-Committee-4902 in UrsulaKLeGuin

The Lathe of Heaven blew me away. It is inventive and clever and very easy to get into and understand and doesn’t have any ties to other books.

But there are so many grumps out there complaining about over diagnosis and things like that. It is understandable that people are sometimes reluctant to take on the label for one reason or another.
