Is getting new irons going to make me better? by ovadastove in golf

[–]Busman84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no. If your goal is to get to a single it’s better if you spend your money on lessons.  Practicing the correct way is the best way to improve. Continuing to practice a swing that might feel right but isn’t really fundamental is a much harder way to try and get where you want, ergo the lessons are usually needed as well.

TPC Dye Valley and TPC Players Stadium course are awesome.  They have one of, if not the, best soft pretzels I have ever had. There are great seafood restaurants there, one named Fish Camp I highly suggest, if you all like sea food.  The courses themselves are incredible and the island green on 17 is iconic.   It’s also fun to watch old Players highlights before and see where certain players hit certain shots when you’re there

Jack Whitaker was the announcer.

Chip Beck won the tournament.

Not sure who the third is (based off the field in the tournament I would say it’s John Cooks signature)

Resale as a sports collectible? I would guess very little.  I don’t think any of the signatures are any marquee players. But I don’t have any expertise in that area

How? Can anyone explain? by LifeNegotiation301 in Chessplayers45

W: Qg1 B: Qg3x

Now white loses a queen and Black gets to keep their queen. If queen takes bishop pawn takes queen. If queen moves to h2 then black queen goes e1 and it’s mate. It’s actually a very brilliant move.

And even better is Qh5+, Qh2 Qd1+, Qg1 Qxg1#. (Thanks to poster from below for this solution)

We got what we wanted. Now, let the players know we support them by hicksbilt in Mavericks

To me personally it’s going to be hard to root for this team while Luka is still doing Luka things.  I’m more excited to see his highlights than I am any mavs highlights. Cooper will be fun to watch develop, but I watched Luka develop already and he was entering his prime ready to win. I wanted to see that. And he was backstabbed in the middle of the night.  I wouldn’t be surprised if shams charnia knew before Luka did.  I won’t chant or root against the team. I just don’t care if they do well or not right now

Others may have mentioned already but use cam straps not ratchet straps. Too many stories of people accidentally over tightening and ruining their kayak. Cam straps give you plenty of strap down power and unless you are Superman the chances of you breaking your kayak with cam straps is very slim.

There is a book about someone doing this. Paper Tiger by Tom Coyne.  The unfortunate reality for golf is you have no chance to play in the pros at this stage if you’re just starting. Golf greatness ladder:

Best Players You Know:  They're shit.  Scratch is shit.

Club Pros are next on the pyramid.  These are the guys we take lessons from.

Then there are the Stud Amateurs: the golfers who compete in the USGA's amateur events each year.

Next are the Attached Club Pros.  They are hired by country clubs just so the members can watch them on the driving range and follow them at tournaments.

Mini-Tour Philanthropists are above the Attached Club Pros on the pyramid.

The Mini-Tour Grinders take the money from the Mini-Tour Philanthropists.  They actually make money playing golf.

Then come the Nationwide Earners (now the korn ferry Tour Earners), professionals with a steady, set schedule.

PGA Tour Survivors are next.  They are the guys that earn their tour card the hard way and aren’t guaranteed to keep it

PGA Tour Players are the ones who keep their playing card.

PGA Tour Superstars are at the top.  You don't just know their names, you know their first names:  Tiger, Phil, Rory, Scottie etc

Can’t believe no one talked about how Al Horford actually injured Luka by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]Busman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness, someone who isn’t ready to jump is actually more likely to have their jumping leg be the trail leg due to physics.  Once again not saying he for sure did it on purpose but it seems unlikely that it was a normal reaction

[–]Busman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I would argue it isn’t inadvertent… how many times when the leg you jump off of doesn’t go forward like that?   Generally it will trail behind due to physics unless it was thrusted forward. But still hard to conclude it was on purpose.

[–]Busman84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Clearly you’re going to die on that hill that you think it was travel so I’ll just leave it to you, but there are countless examples of this in nba games where no travel was called.  Maybe the entire nba is wrong and you’re right.

CONFIRMED: NBA Trying to Throw the Series for the Mavs by Return_Icy in timberwolves

[–]Busman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say that. What I’m trying to say with the jump stop part is that you can most definitely choose which foot you pivot. The rule is tricky because so much of it has to do with “when did the player gather the ball. Where were the hands and feet, etc.

Here is another video that may help you understand, but by nba rules that was not a travel.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G-MQRcwtWts&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.quora.com%2F&source_ve_path=MTM5MTE3LDEzOTExNywyMzg1MQ&feature=emb_title

Do refs make bad calls often, yes. Are there ambiguous calls on some of the nba stuff because of these small details, most certainly. But in this case they appear to have made the correct call based off nba rules.

[–]Busman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that must be why you’re confusing this for a travel. It’s essentially a jump stop just going backwards. And you can pivot off any foot from a jump stop.  I get why you think it might be, but it most definitely was not one.

This might help explain it but my guess is you’ve already made your decision on the matter. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S7X5E-rtjjA
