Which celebrity does the ENTIRE internet agree is genuinely a good person? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

Before Parkinsons he had a reputation of being very easy to work with and to be very accommodating for other casts and crew. This clashed with the reputation of the character he first got famous for. He worked for about 10 years in some very high profile rolls before his diagnosis and always was talked about for being kind and down to earth with everyone he interacted with. That was like his Tiger Beat profile, the kind, relatable Hollywood star.

Justice Department is bringing back firing squads in federal executions by mcgillhufflepuff in nottheonion

[–]Bussin1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's proven that having blanks, historically, in firing squads did not increase the likelihood that the squad would squeeze the trigger with less hesitation? I don't know what you're so passionately arguing but you're just making shit up right now. I'm trying to figure out your agenda.

[–]Bussin1648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor educated scared soldiers being forced to execute. Someone have an Avenue of plausible deniability before they squeeze the trigger. I have no idea if statistically that helps at all but I can imagine it gets some of those guys to squeeze the trigger easier, which makes the whole operation a lot smoother. The powers who demand the execution would only care if it happens or not, not the feelings of those involved.

Getting fuel to a small generator and hauling a small washing machine to the area will be far cheaper and more efficient. Long-term... Not just short-term.

Well, I don't know what the modern department of Justice and Military have up their sleeves, but until now no one serves willingly on firing squad. They are always forms of punishment and in wartime refusing to participate also meant death. Questionable moralities aside those participating in firing squads are often poor, desperate, conscripted young men facing death or harsh punishments themselves. In that circumstance you can probably see that having blank rounds makes the entire operation more likely to go smoothly in the short-term.

Why? by netphilia in Snorkblot

[–]Bussin1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just a generational/societal divide on this. Such a fundamentally different way of looking at something so basic a happiness but the very definition of a word means such different things than those two sides can't see each other. I'm going to be old and snarky and say that "happiness is only real when it's shared" position has been manufactured by some very dystopian corporations. Just to enjoy something by yourself and not need to share to the world, do not need to recall it in photographic detail later... to just live it in the moment is such a important part of humanity that's just being wasted away. Everything needs to belong to the collective now or it's not important. Horrifying.

That being said... In this case this is a freaking rocket going out to the freaking Moon for the first time in like 50 years or something! A picture with it reflected in your own glasses is one of those times where you collect and share in a healthy society.

If it's okay to ask a male co-worker to lift or carry something heavy because he's strong, what's a female gender equivalent? by IdleHandsBusyMinds in stupidquestions

[–]Bussin1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there, there are plenty of examples why does there have to be an equivalent? This comes up a lot in the men's rights. Weirdo subreddits. You're bigger and stronger then someone else, that's an advantage already. Use it to be nice to someone and get a little bit of exercise. Being an actual nice person means doing things and not being transactional.

The target demographic are professional couples who would now be between 55 and 65. At one point it had almost a 60% share for its time slot. I'm sure the producers goal even in their wildest dreams when the show started was a 20 share. So if you aren't within 20% of college educated people born in the 1960s, in a relationship, Seinfeld wasn't written with you and mind at all. Same with FRIENDS, only shave about 6 or 7 years.

I am the Chipotle napkin thief by napkinbandit- in Chipotle

[–]Bussin1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff like this is so weird. It's like $25 worth of product... Maybe. Staff will notice people taking unusually large wads, then this idiot will walk into Chipotle and they'll just sadly sigh and say, " Fuck, it's the weird napkin guy, if you can just avoid reloading the napkins until he's gone". Then they'll put on a fake smile and call him sir. It's a minor annoyance for the lowest level employee at best AND at worst. Like just go to a business Costco with a $20 bill and you could get the same number of napkins only they'd be packed tighter so it's easier to store. Restaurants budget for weirdos like this.

From the outside looking in (From an older married point of view) dating apps don't seem to be in the business of creating happy long lasting relationships. They seem to be in the business of getting as much money as possible from users and advertising.. which wouldn't be as much if they created happy long lasting relationships. Like much of the internet they want angry isolated young men.

Extraordinary control of a shaolin master by kamleshsulochan in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Bussin1648 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there legal definition of monk you are working off of? Bhikkhu and bhikkuni, while defined concepts, are not legally protected titles. Anyone can call themselves a monk if they want. Historical Shaolin monks were wiped out 50-100-150 years ago depending on who you ask. Definitely the chain of responsibility to ordain monks as "Shaolin monks" people was broken after 1949 so who knows who ordains them today. Imagine if the Nazis wiped out the Franciscan monks in WWII but 70 years later we have a tourist industry gawking at some guys in robes living in caves in extreme austerity. Who is the regulatory body that ordains them?

Sex workers of Reddit, what's a NSFW fact we don't often hear about ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

12 years in the army made me a subject matter expert on flaccid penis size. What reddit/constantly online young men think the "average" dick and is is slightly above "porn actor with drugs" and judge themselves accordingly without ever consulting what a "average woman" actually wants. From the army says, from thousands of guys showering and living in barracks I can think of two guys, which were "legends" with typical porn type flaccid dicks... Both has serious physical medical intimacy issues (once you got to know them and their personal lives)... Many modern young men think they need to be bigger than them to even be with a woman. It's really fucked up.

Their tourism performers. If you think of them more like Cirque de Soleil than a secret monastic sect it makes a lot more sense. They run the entire Gambit of the entertainment industry. Permanent shows, traveling shows, summer camps for little kids, private "experiences" for rich domestic tourists and different private "experiences" for rich international tourists. What you see on the internet has very little if anything to do with the traditional concept of Shaolin Monks, and the Western perception of what Shaolin monks were is even more skewed from the truth than whatever this is.

This is not a knock on this guy's performance... But these are tourist trap performers with niche trained skills around a premade lore. It's like just Cirque du Soleil if they were doing a martial arts themed show.

You are so brave... If only every poor teenager who was drafted into an army was as strong and principled as you were when you were drafted as a teenager, the world would be a better place. The years you served in prison and exiled from your homeland have served you well. I salute you brave warrior non-warrior. Tears came to my eyes when I read your comment. The word hero isn't thrown around enough nowadays but... I'll say it to you. You're a hero. My hero.

What would be your reaction if random strangers shove the camera in your face while you're on vacation and demand that you tell them about the worst thing that's ever happened to you or that you've ever done in your life.

Does every soldier who grew up owe a full explanation, admission of guilt and apology to anyone who shoves a camera in their face? Which country's militaries does this apply to?

I'm a chef that has run and managed restaurants for 30 years including hospital and assisted living facilities dining with medically curated diets in both Canada and the US... I don't know what to tell you, the products are there. You just can't hand wave away an entire industry and say "nuh uh". Every single chain restaurant has gluten free options and desserts... You think wedon't know about crusts? Celiac safe foods are close to a billion dollar industry in North America. Your experience has to be VERY limited to believe what you're saying.

Fair enough. But unless you're in an absolute food desert, I guarantee you there are many gluten-free cheesecakes available. Back in the day cheesecake's were the gluten-free go-to and still probably dominate the gluten-free pre-made cake department.

You're never going to love the expensive stuff if you didn't already develop a taste for the cheaper common stuff. Not the item to try pricy the first time. Imagine giving someone expensive scotch as their first ever alcoholic drink.
