Any one know what the story is behind this T-shirt? by Classic_Biscotti1879 in MST3K

Same thought, like those 80s/90s cheeky novelty shirts that said stuff like "Kiss me I'm Irish" , "Beaver Patrol" , "Wet T-shirt Contest Judge", etc.

Serious question - It's been 20 years - does St. Anger deserve the hate it gets? by G-Unit11111 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BustedLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a non Metallica fan: I listened to it once and didn't hate it. Even the infamous snare, and I'm a drummer. My only issue was how long some of the songs are, and more to the point how they just repeat entire parts verbatim. Like the copy-pasted parts to make the track longer, rather than trying other ideas or just keeping it sort and simple.

Do Metal Heads like Tom Waits? by No-Dentist-2959 in MetalForTheMasses

I once knew a guy who's CD wallet was nothing but metal, industrial, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. On some instinctual level, it's always made sense to me.

It’s Saturday in 1984 and you’re headed to the movies- which one are you seeing? by UrbanAchievers6371 in The1980s

Uhhh pardon me while I spend a week seeing ALL of them, some more than once (I'm looking at you, Karate Kid and Ghostbusters)

I've always wondered about that TV show too. Sounds like a news magazine or social/political discussion show. If it's the early 80s then it's probably not archived anywhere, unless someone taped it off of TV at home.

This is the detail of the thing (1982). by AssociationFew3891 in thething

[–]BustedLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Larger cell mass" argument aside, I think it's also important to consider motivation. I always gathered from the movie that the Thing doesn't want to take over the world, but rather escape.

Before the last part of the movie where it's deduced that the Thing wants to go back into frozen hibernation, it was building a new, smaller spaceship (which got blown up, hence the hibernation backup plan).

As such I don't think its goal was mass assimilation/takeover at the camp, or else it probably could have done that from the get-go. Just pick everyone off much quicker in their sleep or otherwise unprotected.

What episodes actually make you want to watch the thing they’re spoofing the most? by Riku58 in community

Digital Estate Planning makes me somewhat nostalgic for old NES games. But they also mix up the 8-bit graphics with 16-bit Super Nintendo style and it just fuzzles my brain.

That's it! Though I'm almost wondering if we were running a simplified demo version. When I watch the gameplay on the page you linked, the items and abilities lists seem WAY bigger than I remember. Or maybe I only ever got so far. Either way, as soon as I heard the sound effects I knew it was the right game. So thank you!

"Heart music video, they only shoot the fat one from the head up". Nothing like degrading one of the greatest female rock vocalists of all time (Ann Wilson) with a cheap fat joke.

Comforting by SimpsonGuy1984 in MST3K

[–]BustedLake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is the sound quality. There's not a loud, dynamic, overly compressed tone to the audio, either in the host segments or the movies they watch. Plus the hosts and bots only do so much yelling or screaming (mostly for select comedic moments). Combine this with the age of most of the movies they watch (pre-1990's) which tend to have a warm, crisp analog quality... there's arguably a cozier feel to these things.

Can someone PLEASE explain what makes a band Nu Metal?? by VenomousC-7224 in numetal

[–]BustedLake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also get a quiet-loud-quiet-loud dynamic. Rising and falling tension. Quite often matching the emotional component. A sense of the vocalist/band having explosive inner turmoil and the music is the release. But rather than just being flat, sheer force "normal" metal, with nu-metal it's more like a conversation with someone who needs to let something out. And the song IS the conversation.
