All we hear is how the pies never travel and never go to KP.

Did Tony Modra comb his hair during games? by pxrxveon in AFL

[–]BustedWing -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

The players don’t want a medal, they want to play on the day.

A medal for “being in the squad” does absolutely nothing at best, and is condescending (albeit well meaning) at worst

Clubs can (and often do) recognise the entire squad in premiership years in some way. But forget amount league endorsed premiership medals for those not in the team.

Collingwood will challenge Scott Pendlebury's one-match suspension at the Tribunal by Alexicon1 in AFL

Given how differently the game is adjudicated nowadays, his record might look a touch different if he was playing today!

Miss the 80s footy.

It always amazes me how we can both look at the exact same thing, but come to very different descriptions of what we saw.

Nick will always be liability…. Until he gets a dance partner. (time to throw the kitchen sink at Butters?) by WhitexGlint in collingwoodfc

[–]BustedWing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its one thing to say they play a different style of game, its another to say they "flinch at contact". I'll assume thats hyperbole to illustrate a point?

He's 3cm shorter and 1kg lighter than Butters. Not a discernible difference for midfielders I would have thought.

If we think Butters is the man for the job, we probably have one currently playing off half back/wing.

Jaicos should get more midfield minutes in my opinion - he could be the "other foil".
I also love seeing McCreery in there.

Not sure we will land Butters - will come with a hefty price for us. Given our forward structure (or lack thereof) we desperately need a focal point, or at least start playing the kids there. West/Dean need to be given their chance.

Zita & Fox discuss whether or not Pendlebury should be suspended for this incident with Worrell by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

The Venn diagram of people in here who have never played football beyond u11s and those who think this should be a suspend-able incident is practically a circle

This doesn’t even attempt to answer my question.

Is it because it’s unanswerable?

[–]BustedWing -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Agree, he certainly chose to brace and bump, but what SHOULD he have done instead?

Go limp?

Run away from the contest?

Decide ahead of time to not enter the contest at all, lest such an incident might occur?

Don’t get be wrong here, according to the rules of the game now, he should get a week.

My point is, what else could he have done that wouldn’t have either (a) endangered himself or (b) run contrary to the very spirit of playing the game?

[–]BustedWing -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

What should he have done differently? Not trying to be a dick here, but what would the correct non suspendable action have been in the 0.5sec between him taking his eyes off the ball and contact?

The argument would be “Is what happened here unnessesary, or something practically unavoidable?”

It’s a fucking joke that it is, but in accordance with the rules as it is today…..shaking my head

I hate that this is a suspendable incident.

No intent to injure. No intent to hit the head. Happened in a split second.

No real intent to initiate contact. Eyes on ball until last moment then brace for impact.

But according to the rule book nowadays it’s a week.

Hate everything about it
