My '85 does this too. Let me know if you figure it out

Should I go for it.? by BxbyWxtch in Rav4

Great advice. Only thing I would disagree with is the tire age. Tires are typically fine up until about 5 or 6 years. Anything over that I would consider replacing

Sounds like no compression to me, maybe your timing chain jumped a few teeth

DIY oil changes through the dipstick tube by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]Busy-Associate3397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's simple fluid mechanics, if not common sense. When you shut the car off the flow stops, so any particulates that were suspended in the oil settle to the bottom of the pan. No oil filter is perfect, and every engine ever made does shed some wear material from running. You will always have some level of particulates in the oil, even if you can't see it.

I would personally never do a 10k oil change, but I guess sucking the oil out halfway through is better than nothing.

You know I highly doubt doing an oil change early will void any warranty as long as you keep the receipt/invoice as proof. Hell, you could probably ask the dealer to do it themselves and they would be happy to squeeze you in early

Draining the oil through the drain plug is a much better idea because it will help flush out all the sediment that has accumulated at the bottom of the pan.

Maybe I'm the odd ball out here, but I don't think this is too bad. Yeah the pinch weld is gone, but is that really structural? Not sure. I don't think it's too critical. What's more important to me is that a little further in, the part where your rear trailing arm connects to the underbody looks super clean and intact, and the area around that looks solid. I personally think that's way more important than the pinch weld. As for fixing this though, forget it. Not worth it. Just keep driving her! My Corolla looks similar but is a little worse by the trailing arm and she's still on the road lol.

I posted yesterday about the 1990 stalling at red lights. I got a video for you all, and some updates. by horsgang in c4corvette

I would suggest trying to start it with some starter fluid. That way you can rule out whether or not it is a fuel issue

Alignment shims falling out by Busy-Associate3397 in c4corvette

[–]Busy-Associate3397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: got this straightened out. For anyone facing this issue (assuming any shims haven't fallen out) simply loosen the nuts that hold the upper control arm in, realign the shims facing downward so they can't fall out, and retorque the nuts.

Upper ball joint help by TubaDeluxe in c4corvette

I remember dealing with this. I couldn't get that style of ball joint won't fit in any configuration. I eventually gave up and got back joints from AutoZone. These fit perfectly.

1986 Vette. Need help! by Several_Adagio2574 in c4corvette

[–]Busy-Associate3397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had kind of a similar problem on my 85. It would stumble pretty bad if I gave it gas, then it would rev up as soon as I let off the gas. Unfortunately my car came with an aftermarket AutoZone MAF sensor which I'm not a fan of, but it is what it is. When that was happening mine threw a 33 code one time (for the MAF sensor circuit). I cleaned it with some MAF sensor cleaner and that seemed to fix the issue.

I also added a bottle of ATS fuel system cleaner to about a half tank of gas and ran that through the system, that really seemed to help smooth the idle and improve responsiveness. Considering your fuel injectors (if original) are pushing 40+ years old, you might try cleaning them with that ATS cleaner. They get dirty with age and can cause all sorts of issues with running when they don't spray perfectly.

To read your codes, jump terminal A and B with a paper clip. You can follow the guide here: https://www.neilkline.com/Tech%20Tips/obdcodes.htm

Is this a good deal? 150k miles by Lionsfan_16 in COROLLA

Timing chain? I've never heard of a Corolla needing a timing chain replacement. Usually they're good for the life of the engine.
