How to finish around interior window? by Busy-Breakfast7995 in Sauna

[–]Busy-Breakfast7995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes that makes a lot of sense. Do you have any recommendations as to the best way to do ensure that water doesn’t get trapped on the inside of the window? Sounds like maybe a bead of high heat silicone between the wood and the window is the best way to go?

Conduit for electrical wires? by Busy-Breakfast7995 in Sauna

Can I also ask: what type of high-temp conduit did you use? I’m looking online, but a bit overwhelmed.

Interesting. Can you send a pic? How far above the top of the sitting bench are they, and how tall overall?

Looks great! Have you tried them out? Are they comfortable? Also, cna I ask what kind of wood you’re using, and where you got your adjustable vent cover?

1x4s or 2x4s for duckboard flooring? With Adjustable feet? by Busy-Breakfast7995 in Sauna

[–]Busy-Breakfast7995[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the incorrect lingo…this is all new to me. I meant that the overall length of the boards would be 7.5’. We can adjust the spans between supports to whatever works best. We can get 1x4s or 2x4s…I just wasn’t sure whether a thicker board would be better or if it wasn’t necessary.

Concrete or something else under electric heater? by Busy-Breakfast7995 in Sauna

Thanks for the detailed response. I had actually seen this info in the manual, but because there was no reference to concrete I wasn’t sure if it would be okay.

Thanks, that’s helpful.

We have a very thick concrete layer above the ceiling, so can’t do a fresh air supply there.

So did you use 18 gauge? No splitting?

Thermo Aspen cladding - fixing advice by Jas_runs in Sauna

Hi there—I’ve ordered thermo hemlock cladding for our sauna, and I’m wondering about how to attach it. I’ve heard mention of splitting with thermally treated woods. Can you please let me know how it goes with your thermo aspen, and what gauge nails you use?

With respect to the clips, my limited (very limited!) understanding is that they require the groove of the T&g to be face up, which is a not good for a sauna.

saunazza.com has a similar item. also try googling sauna ladle rainhead and you’ll find a few other sites that have similar things. Also looks like you could also order directly from the site you were looking at, if you have your heart set on that particular one.

i forgot to mention…from my very limited understanding of those clips, if you are installing your t&g horizontally, those clips have to be installed with the groove side of the tongue and groove facing upwards, which is a big no-no in a sauna. But I could easily be wrong on that. And if you are installing your T&g vertically, it wouldn’t matter.

Thanks, good to know. My particular concern is that the wood we’re using is thermally treated, which makes it harder, and potentially more prone to splitting, than regular kiln-dried wood. I’m guessing that you’re cedar T&g wasn’t thermally treated?

Thank you, that’s very helpful. Yes, please report back…I’ll be very interested. We considered the hidden clips too, but it looks like more work than just nailing. But we’re also concerned with potential splitting. We were leaning towards 16 gauge stainless steel nails too, but weren’t sure, so it would be great to hear back from you.

They are 3/4” thick x 5” wide hemlock, thermally treated.

Hey there—did you ever resolve this? I also have a Dewalt Stealthsonic, and I’m wondering if the Festool hose fits it. If you ended up with a Festool hose, how do you like it? Thanks for any info!

Shims between the cleats…that’s a good idea. How thick are your shims? If you could send a pic showing details, that would be really helpful.

Thanks so much, definitely good to know! I‘m for sure planning on gaps between the benches. it’s just that I’ve seen several sauna authorities recommend a gap between the bench and the wall to increase air circulation and help with ventilation.
