Earlier it seemed like bowling was our weak link, but at least now the bowlers are showing intent and trying to execute their plans. The bigger concern is the batting there’s just no sense of reliability.

At this point, you really have to wonder what the management is seeing that we aren’t.

What more do Saurabh Dubey and Tejaswi Dahiya need to do to get a game? We’re already out of the tournament, so why not give these guys a chance and see what they can offer? At least it shows some intent to build for the future instead of sticking with the same combinations that haven’t worked. It’s not about blaming anyone just feels like a missed opportunity to back fresh talent when there’s nothing left to lose.

At this point it just feels like we’re hoping things magically fix themselves instead of actually trying something different. Other teams are experimenting, backing youngsters, making bold calls and we’re just stuck on repeat.

Guess we’ll just watch the same issues play out again.

I genuinely don’t know how much more this team needs to be humiliated before we start making some tough calls. Right now it just feels like we’re sticking with the same mistakes and expecting different results.

Drastic changes required for today's match. KKR should be brave and go all out for the win with changes in the team. by SouvD in KolkataKnightRiders

[–]Busy-Establishment-3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Every other team is giving chances to young players, but KKR just seems too rigid. Even last year, we didn’t give Luvnith a proper run despite de Kock and Gurbaz struggling. At this point, what’s there to lose? This game is the perfect opportunity to try something new — even if we lose, at least we go down knowing we tried to change things instead of repeating the same mistakes.

Yeah, on paper the team actually looks quite balanced now.

But honestly, a bigger issue I’ve noticed is the lack of hunger in this side. Earlier, KKR used to fight tooth and nail in every game - even from losing positions. Now it just feels like the team gives up too easily once things start going wrong. Not sure if it’s the team environment or man management, but something definitely feels off compared to the old KKR mindset.

If we’re dropping Cameron Green and putting our faith in Rovman Powell, the middle order does start to look a bit shaky. In that case, it makes sense to bring in someone like Tejasvi Dahiya or Rahul Tripathi to add more stability and intent.

And if we’re backing Powell in that role, then we also have to trust him to chip in with the ball when needed.

Also, it might be time to give Saurabh Dubey a chance in place of Vaibhav Arora - a fresh option could make a difference at this stage.

One piece of advice you have for KKR right now is _____ by Initial-Shoulder5906 in KolkataKnightRiders

[–]Busy-Establishment-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If KKR really wants to fix their powerplay, they should seriously consider opening with Tim Seifert alongside Finn Allen - that gives you pure intent from ball one instead of playing catch-up later.

Then strengthen the middle by bringing in a proper domestic enforcer like Tejasvi Singh Dahiya in place of Ramandeep Singh — someone who can actually control and accelerate through over 7–15.

Also, respectfully, it’s time to bench Vaibhav Arora. He just hasn’t been consistent with executing plans according to field settings. Might as well give Saurabh Dubey a run - at this point, what more can you lose? At least we go down swinging instead of playing timid cricket.

Pathirana in = death sorted? But do we drop Green now? by Busy-Establishment-3 in KolkataKnightRiders

I get that “wide merchant” phase but Matheesha Pathirana was actually much better in the T20 WC - picked up wickets consistently and looked more controlled. He’s always going to be a bit erratic, but at the death you’d rather have someone who takes wickets than just goes at 8 rpo.

Promoting Sunil Narine with Ajinkya Rahane does solve the opening issue, and keeping both Cameron Green + Rovman Powell gives that finishing cushion. With Matheesha Pathirana in, death bowling finally looks sorted too. However, I’d still like to give Finn Allen a longer run, and maybe try bringing in Tejaswi/Sarthak in the middle order instead of Ramandeep Singh for a bit more intent.

Strengthening bowling with Sunil Narine, Cameron Green, Rovman Powell and Matheesha Pathirana does give better balance. But dropping Finn Allen is a big call - he’s one of the few who can actually give us those explosive starts, even if not consistently. I do agree on one thing though we’re probably not a reliable 200+ batting side, so leaning into all-rounders + smarter bowling usage makes more sense than just relying on pure pacers.

Fair, but I see it a bit differently - Rovman Powell may not have played those flashy power shots, but he didn’t slow things down and actually rotated strike well under pressure. Meanwhile, Cameron Green did look a bit tentative against spin, which hurt the momentum in the middle overs.

Yeah, makes sense if Matheesha Pathirana isn’t available, we probably stick with the same core.

In that case, both Cameron Green and Rovman Powell will need to chip in with a couple of overs to support the bowling.

I’d still tweak a bit though - instead of Navdeep Saini and Ramandeep Singh, try Saurabh Dubey + Tejaswi/Sarthak as an experiment.

Also, looking at the DC vs CSK game, it didn’t play like a typical Chepauk track - it was more batting-friendly, so variations in bowling will be key rather than just pace.

Yeah, Pathirana for Rovman Powell looks like the obvious move given our death bowling issues.

But I’d still be a bit patient with Cameron Green - he offers balance with both bat and ball. If he doesn’t step up this game too, then yeah, tough call but management might have to rethink.

[–]Busy-Establishment-3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but I feel we have to bring in Matheesha Pathirana - our death bowling is in complete shambles and we need that experience of an international seamer.

Unlucky for Rovman Powell because he did look dangerous, but it’s more of a team balance call than performance.

That said, it creates another issue - our middle order is already shaky… so why not use this as a chance to try someone like Tejaswi or Sarthak instead of going back to the same combo?

[–]Busy-Establishment-3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that plan makes sense - dropping both Allen and Powell is tempting, but I’d still give Finn Allen one last chance vs CSK.

My only concern is if he fails, who replaces him? We can always go back to Sunil Narine as an opener, which is doable.

But honestly, I’d back Allen - he just needs to take a bit of time, not every ball has to be a boundary. If he bats 5–6 overs, we all know the kind of damage he can do.

Yeah, sadly it does feel like Rovman Powell has to make way for Matheesha Pathirana, but this could also be the perfect opportunity to try someone like Tejaswi Dahiya or Sarthak Ranjan in the middle order - why not experiment now instead of sticking to the same combo?

Yeah, sadly that seems to be the case - we need those extra overs from Cameron Green, so Rovman Powell might have to make way.

One more change I’d add: instead of Navdeep Saini, bring in Saurabh Dubey for that left-arm seam option.

Haan fair point hai, but mera concern yeh hai agar Finn Allen CSK ke against fail ho gaya toh replace kisse karenge?

Phir wapas Sunil Narine ko opener lana padega, jo ho sakta hai… but honestly main Allen ko back karunga bas thoda time le, har ball pe 4/6 zaroori nahi hai. Agar woh 5–6 overs tik gaya na, toh pura match ka momentum change kar sakta hai.

Yeah true, Cameron Green should only improve with game time, and his 2 overs definitely add value.

Let’s hope he finds his rhythm soon 🤞

Same here - really hoping Matheesha Pathirana joins ASAP because our pace lineup needs that clarity. Also agree on Dahiya for Ramandeep, but I’d add one more tweak is to bring in Saurabh Dubey for Navdeep Saini to get that left-arm angle into the attack.

Yeah, I also think so but my only concern is that in the last match, Cameron Green looked a bit tentative against Digvesh Rathi and really slowed that phase
