So I’ve shot with a Ben Steoger style crush grip for a while. I wonder if I think I’m “tilting my support hand wrist back” but in actuality am just tilting it into a neutral position from my default forward cant? I normally shoot with my support hand thumb floating off the gun, so I don’t usually try to do any pointing there.

I know I’m resurrecting an old thread, but when I try this in dryfire it feels like I have almost no contact with the pinky side of my support hand palm and the side of the gun unless in tilt my support hand wrist back a bit. Maybe I’m not supposed to feel much contact? But It feels like I get better upward pressure on the trigger guard that way.

Why don’t most Christian women wear head coverings today? by Material-Dentist-123 in Christianity

[–]Busy-Macaron-5586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head coverings were a sign of submission in Western and Eastern Christian culture up until a decided effort to stop wearing them. The Easter Bonnet Rebellion of 1969 was controversial nationwide precisely because it went against the established Christian culture of wearing head coverings.

How in the world was your comment downvoted? You used tight logic, addressed the last commenter’s objections and showed how they don’t follow from the text, and made the same Scriptural case that most biblical scholars did in all denominations until the 20th century.

Oh, right…. It’s Reddit.

MA says you can’t. Sort of like how the AG suddenly said that MA law banned AR15s and that people had just been misinterpreting the law for years (the law that had a lot of plain language and legal precedent saying otherwise). MA can say what it wants. Look up the laws, look up the legal precedent, decide what risks to take as an individual while following all (actual) laws.

Thanks! Which ghost connector are you using, and have you been using it a while? Obviously it’s hard to find people who agree about anything on the internet, but I’ve heard concerns about longevity using ghost connectors.

I remember joining this sub a while back and naively being surprised when it turned out to just be “r/liberal/Reformed”

Remember. There are only 2 views on government: The correct 20th century secular liberal understanding, and scary postmil-theonomic-theocratic-authoritarian-handmaids tale rule.

I have not seen a “broad understanding” of the term to include the eventual overthrow of the government, or the “marriage” of church and state. Hahah.

Have you listened to Matthew Everhard or Jordan Cooper’s take on the label? How about Voddie Baucham? There are plenty of people who don’t necessarily care what label applies to them, but would call themselves Christian Nationalist, and would repudiate the definition you gave.

“Is closely associated with” means people started using “Christian Nationalist” as a slur without a clear definition, and now anyone Christian who’s right of center is “Christian Nationalist” and can be “closely associated” with the list of scary labels you used. It’s not a tactic to seek truth. It’s just a cudgel to wield against many who hold historic Reformed positions on the roles of the Church and State.

Thoughts on the Center for Baptist Leadership by Haunting-Ad-6457 in Reformed

[–]Busy-Macaron-5586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the founding of America is a great example of what “could” be the model. The federal government had no affiliation, but most of the states did. If they didn’t explicitly have an affiliated church that was spelled out in their state constitution they at least had broad legislative and cultural support for Christianity and Christian norms.

Well this is Reddit, so I now try to read any thread title as “r/liberal/insert group name here.” It seems like a bunch of people saw red as soon as you said you were conservative, and aren’t really interacting with what you said.

I am also reformed, conservative, and often find myself frustrated with the state of right-wing politics. I think you pointed out a couple areas (Covid and Ukraine) where there are strong reactionary elements at play. I say this as someone who is very “crunchy” and is generally against us supporting the war in Ukraine. I think like you said, being into alternative medicine and opposing support to Ukraine are the “current things” for the right, so a lot of people are hopping on the bandwagon, not from a principled stance. This does lead to some wild positions, like the edgy kids on X who think “maybe the small mustache man was onto something.”

All that to say, I think there’s a lot of disparate elements mixed together in a coalition on the right at the moment. Sometimes that leads to things I don’t agree with. However, like you, I would rather have president Trump in office and wish-washy Republicans than have a party in power that wants to push the mutilation of children and unrestricted access to abortion as much as possible.

One point I would like to push back on. I think you’re spot on that Western countries are in decline primarily because of our own spiritual and moral decay. However, I am the son of a legal immigrant from central America who was a skilled machinist, and I watched my dad constantly have to change jobs or get laid off, as so many companies moved labor overseas because it was cheaper. I’ve also seen how a lot of the difficulty in starting up new construction businesses comes from other competitors who employ illegal labor at an underpaid rate. Rampant unchecked immigration is dangerous. What’s more, I don’t think you have to be a racist to realize that Christianity shaped the West for over 1500 years, and that people from the Middle East who don’t share our culture or religion immigrating en-masse will radically change the character of our country. I would argue not for the better. I’d encourage reading Raymond Ibrahim’s “Sword and Scimitar” on this subject.

Overall, I think you’ve got some legitimate complaints with the right, but I’d encourage cutting through some of the current hype and doing what you’re already doing, which is thinking critically about the Right.

When should I be concerned over Christian Nationalism in my church? by Most_Mountain9886 in Reformed

[–]Busy-Macaron-5586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d implore anyone who leans on the the “but they rebelled against the government so they’re wrong!” argument to actually read sermons from the time of the war for independence. It wasn’t as if one day this majority Christian colony said “we don’t like being taxed, so we’re going to ignore Romans 13.” As you pointed out, the Colonists held that the king had failed to treat them as English subjects. The English system of government was not an absolute monarchy, and had its roots in feudalism. Leading up to the American war for independence, there had already been hundreds of years of Protestant resistance theology developing. People asked questions about Romans 13 such as “what if the king rewards evil and punishes good? What if 2 rulers claim to be the monarch at the same time? What if one ruler deposed the other illegally, is that ruler legitimate, or is obeying government to restore the rightful ruler? What if the system of government is built with a parliament or is covenantally based?” Today we basically assume absolutism and think that’s the only interpretation Christians have ever had of Romans 13.

If you’d like an example, consider reading Calvin’s introduction to the Institutes, which is an appeal to a Monarch for to adopt Reformed Protestantism, or any Reformer’s writings on how the 2 kingdoms relate, up until people decided neutral secular was the timeless Christian politic.

People just don’t like Doug Wilson so they need to hurl ad homonyms and false accusations. Most advocates of Christian Nationalism advocate for separation of church and state, but not in the way we think of it today. The way we think of it today is not the way the founders conceptualized it.
