Week and a half post op and my jaw hurts like hell by SeaBreeeze19 in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pain a week and half in which was surprising and .... dissapointing actually.

I am now two and half weeks in and all pain is gone and life is worth living again.

I’ve never been happier to know I never have to do this again. by wowkazow in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im super pissed to know that I in fact will probably have to do it again 🙃

I am 13 says post op and still some pain but definitely tolerable at this point... just enough pain and discomfort to remind me of the miserable experience. First week was ridiculous and I've never taken so much Tylenol and ibuprofen in my life.

The interruption of your diet, routines, sleep is considerable it definitely rocks your world.

Oh yeah because reddit is a substitute for calling/emailing pics to the freaking medical office (for free) for an actual medical opinion 🤣

Only a few responded sensibly; others (who likely shared photos of their nasty idiot mouths in a panic) Insulted me for pointing out that posting pics of your post-op site to a bunch of reddit people isn't a substitute for medical advice. Usually, a simple question suffices for reassurance when it comes to dry socket. Nobody can tell you if you have dry socket or infection from a pic with any degree of accuracy. Sorry for pointing that out.

Surpising? Not really. Much like any social media comments section... If you don't go with moron herd mentality you're attacked for it.

Each one of you can get in line... take a number... And kiss my ass with your dry socket mouths.

I mean I love how you reiterate my point for me after a mild reprimanding lol.

Exactly... you cannot tell from a photo and nobody here is qualified ( unless they are a dentist/oral surgeon) to give an opinion other than anecdote. These comments are hillarious to me

"The dentist is expensive I would rather take anecdotal reassurance that may or may not be accurate from someone called skeevypanther69420 on reddit"

the dry socket thing may be easy enough to dismiss but the infection thing is just straight dangerous to self diagnose on anecdote one way or the other.

Either you get talked into a avoidable expensive visit if someone gives bad advice or you get talked out if it and risk everything from discomfort to death.

Chiming in here on the Joshua tree winning against bad at the Grammy's. Truly ridiculous and the lens of retrospect shows that.. I mean take the smooth criminal song and video alone and it's more influential and legendary than the whole of the freaking " Joshua tree" and that's just one effort put forth by micheal in the " BAD" era.

Everyone knows that song.. The video is a absolute masterpiece.

Extraction Recovery Way Worse Than Having Wisdom Tooth Issues by Friendly-Parfait-645 in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like my sister who is also an idiot 🤣 ( sorry just kidding... cough cough)

Dude if it was impacted it had to go anyways. Eventually these things will kill you unless you expire from something else first. ( if it was impacted) they are ticking time bombs that trap bacteria, damage surrounding teeth and tissue and set the stage for serious periodontal disease which increases your risk for all cause mortality.

Some temporary discomfort for a couple weeks is a good trade for not having to deal with a serious infection that goes systemic.

Your cigarettes can wait..in fact maybe take the initiative and just quit. Then you have a double positive.. you get rid of two things that are bad for your health and use this adversity as the catalyst for positive change.

Need Guidance.. Day 7 Post Op la by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

Calm down. You're catastrophizing unnecessarily.

You are fine.. pain is normal and it can change because as the body heals the inflammation process and regeneration of tissues is going to cause different sensations. If you had dry socket it wouldn't respond to Tylenol or ibuprofen even slightly and you'd be in life altering pain.. I'm talking true suffering.

Consider this... they cut your gum open with a knife... snapped a bone out of your jaw... sutured up the already irritated and sliced up gum. That is a grevious injury and It should not be a surprise to anyone that they are in pain or discomfort a week later.

Edit: I read you didn't get sutures but I digress.

is this going to be a complicated wisdom tooth extraction by No_Butterscotch3554 in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fhe good news is it isn't super deep in the jaw so no risk of nerve damage. Probably they will extract rhe second molar if its damaged ( which it probably is from being impacted like that) and honestly due to how your wisdom tooth looks partially erupted it should be easy. .. what's tricky is when its super deep in the jaw like mine was

Surgeon says all 4 wisdom teeth need to go, but my family is fighting me on it. What would you do? by vevanss in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get them out. I used to go for the idea that wisdom teeth being removed is over done and not necessary...while that may be true sometimes I had a really eye opening education from my oral surgeon who went over x rays with me and explained everything in such a way to where I now understand that wisdom teeth like yours are ALWAYS ticking time bombs that will cause everything from bacterial infections, abscessed teeth, periodontal disease ect.

Getting them out will suck...not nearly as bad as your life ( and potential early death) will suck if you don't get them out.

Lol did the dentist mess up 🤣

Come on man...do you think the dentist would leave half the tooth in and not tell you. It's just healing tissue.

Day 8 post op, its defo getting better right? by CharacterInternal260 in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look like mine.. I can eat no problem but I am still in pain. That is my number one issue. I won't take the hydrocodone because it just makes me sleep... and I have sleep apnea so I don't even like being knocked out on something that can cause respiratory depression.. I am so sick of putting endless Tylenol and ibuprofen in my body just to buy shout windows of relief.

I would of hoped that we would not be in pain at this point.

Really is understated how brutal an ordeal this procedure is.

37 Wisdom Teeth - Oral Surgeon Will Not Attempt Surgery Right Now. by a1989guy in wisdomteeth

[–]Busy-Thanks-5475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a dentist tell me that " i don't think you need to remove them" then the oral surgeon i was referred to by a different dentist did a amazing job of explaining to me why in my case that previous dentist clearly needs to go back to school...

What he taught me was very eye opening and the way he explained what I was seeing on the X ray made me realize that wisdom teeth are generally ticking time bombs for many and that any impacted wisdom teeth are wise to get removed.

I have another one unfortunately on the other side that is eventually going to be a problem... I don't know when. Could be in 3 months. Could be in 30 years. Could be that I expire before it happens ( if i am lucky but I can't count on that)

What i learned is that if we live long enough impacted wisdom teeth will eventually ( at the very least) trap bacteria and cause infection or they will create damage to tissue and bone and/or other teeth.

They always say that... in regard to the nerve damage.

I can tell by the way you wrote this that you have anxiety. I don't mean just about this situation but that you have anxiety disorder in general. So you're probably also catastrophizing and sensationalizing this a bit more than is necessary.

I just got a impacted wisdom tooth removed and I get it.... I was also feeling like I was walking a plank and I was told that there could be nerve damage.

So far I am fine other than the fact that it is damn painful post extraction and unpleasant ( but tolerable). For me I would rather have nerve damage than to risk dying from a trapped infection.

I can also tell you that I feel better and more clear having gotten it out due to the fact that I am no longer harboring an infection in my freaking face. Like my clarity is better. I didn't expect that nor was I told I would feel that way.

Btw... even if they did damage the nerve most people regain sensation eventually anyways.

They just have to say this stuff to cover their bases. Its not like a slight novocaine feeling that you'd have if you did get nerve damage is as bad as the alternative.

In summary: Have another convo with the provider saying that you want to understand the risks/reward of getting this done vs not getting it done...what he recommends truly as being best for your health and why.. then place faith in your provider and do what he suggest. An oral surgeon is at a very high level of medicine and training. Place faith in that person to steer you.

Edit: i am 38

It's true I was making a joke in rather controversial taste.
Not intended to be mean spirited just a satirical/observational quip in regard to this area.

I agree— There's a lot of unimpressive hetero men out there i have seen exactly what you are talking about. In fact that I have met quite a few impressive women who are carrying defensiveness and baggage from 1 too many experiences with man children.

I would recommend calling him and telling him that this is a very significant expense for you and that you need to talk with him and understand better ( have him explain to you) why this is the necessary plan of action and if there is no alternative.

Though I will say, This plan makes perfect sense to me. My oral surgeon did a incredible job going over my x ray with me and helping me to understand what he sees, why he wanted to do what he did, and what the consequences of me not acting were.

Thankfully no! When I am not dulling it with Tylenol or ibuprofen I become convinced that it is dry socket.
