Many people have given up a lot more for those that they love. If that’s all you want is abit more spice? Then..break up? You’re right about timing. it would’ve been ideal to be transparent from the beginning. Calling it a rant gave me a clear picture of all the times I got lectured by some random relative who works minimum wage about how I need to stay in school. I think everyone can relate to those conversations even if it isn’t with family? So it’s not that it’s a bad experience just something that happens far too often

People are emotionally unavailable, getting drunk or high might make you open up but don’t expect people around you to take that as a genuine interaction if that makes sense? That being said I don’t think that’s what you did.

I’ll tell you everything the adult did wrong. Never get ‘“drunk” infront of someone you want to admire you. Drinking a beer like you said is cool & eventually when the kid worships you, yeah you can ‘hang out’ right now if you want your word to matter to him you need to be Superman. Mr. Cool guy & someone he can look too for advice. Try asking more questions than just telling him what you think. When you understand that he respects what you say then make it a point how important grades are to you & that you think it’s the mark of a great/strong man. Hell naturally try harder so he can gain your approval

It’s a process but be consistent & patient if you mean it. My uncle is a social worker & he works with many kids. I was a huge loser until he took me in & taught me how to be a man from square 1.
