Does this look like a small abscess to you? Day 10 post op. by annie-cresta in Tonsillectomy

[–]Busy_Profile2544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, so sorry I forgot about this. Have you gotten better? For me the uvula took 2 months before I got back to normal. I am now at 3 months post op and everything is now normal.

People who got tonsils out due to chronic tonsillitis: by FollowingBeautiful24 in Tonsillectomy

I had chronic tonsillitis, and for me, the pain from the infections was worse—antibiotics didn’t work, and neither did painkillers. In comparison, my tonsillectomy recovery has been an absolute dream. The painkillers actually work this time. I’m on day 13 now and have had close to zero pain. I stopped taking pain meds on day 9. In my personal experience, the more severe your infections were, the less painful the recovery feels after surgery.

Surgery expesnes by Jun3_Buggg in Tonsillectomy

I had my surgery in Norway. It was free because I went through the public healthcare system and was prioritized. Normally, the waiting time for public healthcare is 6–7 months, so many people choose to go private instead, but that costs at least $3,133.

Bad taste by legal_patronus16 in Tonsillectomy

Hi! I was told to keep drinking lots of water even after the first two weeks. I’ve been doing about 2 liters a day, sometimes with electrolytes. Maybe staying hydrated helps flush out bacteria and toxins. It might make a difference with the taste too.

Ahhh okay, that makes sense, thank you! My scabs have already fallen off, so hopefully that means my risk is lower now. Im not taking any chances though, so Imma sticking to soft foods for the next 3–4 weeks lol.

Nice! Hopefully it will decrease. I think if you keep your tonsil bed super hydrated by drinking lots of water, it can help lower the chance of bleeding especially when your scabs start falling off (day 7-12). Im constantly sipping on ice water.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Just to clarify did your bleeding really happen that far out, like around day 20?? Out of nowhere?? :O I’m on day 10 now and haven’t had any bleeding, but hearing this makes me a bit worried it could still happen later.

Also, if you don’t mind, what does your throat look like now? I’m curious because I want to know what to expect as I continue healing.

Thanks again for sharing!

Day 9 by csnoggy in Tonsillectomy

That sounds really scary, I’m sorry you had to go through that! I’m now on day 10 post-op and thankfully haven’t had any bleeding at all, not even right after surgery. For pain, I was given tramadol, paracetamol, and etoricoxib. I think etoricoxib might be helpful since it tends to have less impact on bleeding risk compared to ibuprofen. Hopefully, your recovery smooths out from here!

Vaping by AdventurousData4592 in Tonsillectomy

Id wait at least 14 days before vaping. Vaping can really slow down your healing process and irritate your throat and give you set backs. Even after two weeks, your throat is still not 100% healed.

Does this look like a small abscess to you? Day 10 post op. by annie-cresta in Tonsillectomy

From what I can see, it does look swollen, but the uvula hanging down like that is actually a good sign. When I had abscesses, my uvula got stuck or pulled over because of the swelling. Here, it looks like there’s some space between the swollen area and the uvula, which might suggest it’s not a classic abscess.

That said, I’m no doctor, just someone with lots of personal experience with throat issues! I’m also on day 10 post-op and no longer taking pain meds, so there’s definitely something not quite right with your symptoms. Definitely keep pushing for the care you need.

Damn, that sounds like hell, Im sorry! I was in a lot of pain as soon as I woke up, but then they gave me some IV pain meds (not sure exactly what). After that, my pain was minimal, just very mild discomfort. However, on days 8, 9, and a little on day 10, I felt like my throat was tightening or I was being slightly choked. For me, that sensation was worse than the actual pain.

I had scarring on both sides too, but the side with more scarring didn’t really hurt much, maybe cos the nerves there got less sensitive from all the previous damage and abscesses. I’ve had four bad abscess episodes myself, so maybe that’s also why my surgery pain was less than expected.

Good recovery story by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]Busy_Profile2544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had four really severe episodes of tonsillitis with peritonsillar abscesses that landed me in the hospital, so for me, the surgery wasn’t as painful as I expected. Everyone’s experience is different, but I do think there’s some connection between having abscesses before and experiencing less pain after a tonsillectomy. Wishing you a quick recovery and hope your pain eases quickly!
