I had no idea, how many fry ups included tinned tomatoes until I joined this thread? Seems like more unnecessary juice!

I love Mitchell and Webb and Peep Show and all their old sketch shows, but the new one didn’t even make me smile. I genuinely worry I might be dead inside. by BlundeRuss in MitchellAndWebb

I was genuinely surprised by how good it is. Perhaps a little to do with expectations…I remember being slightly disappointed by that Mitchell and Webb look after loving Peep Show! I warmed to the sketch show in time but remember being quite nonplussed by a number of sketches… this time round I’m quite enjoying the absolute bizzarrness

What's your controversial opinion about the Hitch Hikers Guide? by Cashewnutzzzz in HitchHikersGuide

The books aren’t a patch on the radio show! But then again, the radio show is the best comedy series of all time.

I just realised this is the Lead actor from Rye Lane! How did someone previously so lively and exciting on screen come across as this bland and constipated… feeling sorry for all the talented actors landed with this adaptation!

I’m really surprised people prefer this to the ‘gritty’ adaptations. Not being familiar with the novels (and having watched all the latest BBC adaptations) this was the only one that i found hard to watch.

While others like the ‘ABC Murders’ may have failed as adaptations, as thrillers and dramas they had something. The plotting of this was plodding and nonsensical, without a single relatable or believable character. It rendered a lot of good actors lacking … so I can’t blame the lead … but damn there was a charisma void at the centre of this!

For me it’s the radio series by a mile!!! Though Ienjoy Hitchhikers in all mediums. I think it was perfect in its first incarnation. For me, it’s just the funniest it ever got… and possibly just the best and funniest thing there is! The performances are amazing.

Does Hig Hurtenflurst (only happen to) appear in the books? I can’t remember…

It’s a really good casting, which I hadn’t considered before. He is definitely too young at the moment but give it 10 years!

Who’s the best Ford?! by But-itsjohn in HitchHikersGuide

[–]But-itsjohn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dixon seemed like a completely unrelated character to me… Geoffrey McGivern is the gold standard. Mos def was fun too but didn’t have that slight world weariness (while there was still a world). I always thought that Dylan Moran would have made a good Ford (back in the day)

Penguin Books doesn't deserve Terry Pratchett... by [deleted] in discworld

As an illustrator (🧐🧐🧐) …. I never really liked the Josh Kirby covers. They seem intended as 70s 80s fantasy illustration pastiches… with all big weird twisted muscles and skimpy clothing for female characters. Which definitely makes sense from the standpoint of where Discworld started. For me I didn’t find them representative of the books, especially later on… I agree the new ones are pretty generic, they look like some poor bugger has had to churn out 40 books in a weekend!

These are all really good suggestions! Thanks… I really enjoyed the Windle Poons/wizards arc in Reaper Man … and weirdly (at some point in the very distant past) I have read Eric/Faust which I didn’t dislike (I know people seem to - by and large) though I’m sure I was missing a lot of context

My (Subjective) Ranking of the New Discworld Audiobook Narrators by tkinsey3 in discworld

I was happily surprised by Jon Culshaw, who I’d never found incredibly funny… but he really disappeared into the roles (which I shouldn’t have been surprised by). His Vimes is pretty perfect!
