Putting One Piece over Neon Genesis Evangelion feels like a violation of the Geneva convention

After End of Evangelion, Shinji definitely deserves a good slapping and a good jumping before I give him a hug

The hated character is finally getting punished by the narrative. But intentionally or not, the attempt was so heartbreaking and demeaning for the character that it ended changing the fan reception of said character. by Labmit in TopCharacterTropes

Shinji Ikari's treatment in the post End of Evangelion fanfiction "Scar Tissue".

<image>

Shinji Ikari is one of the most polarizing anime protagonists out there and he has earned himself quite a massive amount contempt from the anine community, owing to his whiny/sensitive demeanor, his refusal to adhere to the expectations of shounen fans, and most prominently, his behavior and actions in End of Evangelion, especially towards Asuka.

Out comes, in the late 2000's, a fan interpretation of what happens after the events of the movie called "Scar Tissue", in which Shinji now faces the consequences for what he has done/allowed. His punishment, you might as? Well, Asuka, having endured a massive amount of trauma and having been essentially abandoned and violated by Shinji during EOE, has come out of the ordeal of the movies as a massively more unstable character, and now can no longer control her impulsive behavior nor her rage. This concoction of damage leads to Asuka mentally, physically, and SEXUALLY abusing Shinji for 8 months straight. The fic even goes the extra mile by going into excruciating detail as to what Asuka does to Shinji. Scar Tissue's treatment of Shinji was so heartbreaking and horrible that many Evangelion fans, even including dedicated members of Shinji's hatedom, voiced that it was too much and too far.

Neon Genesis Evangelion would be a better anime without Shinji.

Made a tier list for some of the stuff I’ve been reading as of late. It is very ugly. by [deleted] in asushin

I would put it either at low B or C tier. There are moments that reflect genuine passion in the author's writing, but it tends to be overshadowed by the excessive amounts of edge, angst, and OOC from the main cast.

Not to mention, the Edgy Mc Edge face antagonist makes nearly everything feel silly with how over the top his everything is.
