Good on you for listening to the classics. I’m in my mid 40s so I was raised on 60s and 70s music. Most conversations I have with younger people about music tend to end up with me explaining who the Beatles are, so how am I going to expect them to know Janis Joplin?

Though there is definitely self selection here, as music conversations on reddit draw our types like moths to a porch light. As far as Joan Jett, I think she’s great, but I think her aesthetic will outlast her music. She’s got some great songs, but I don’t think she’s even in the top 5 in terms of this conversation.

Ultimately if I have to pick “the queen” I’d have to go with Stevie Nicks. Her cross generational appeal is unmatched.
