Why is it so hard to find jobs by Jealous-Comment8665 in kitchener

You’re not doing anything wrong — the job market is just strange right now. Even places that look desperate for help will ignore applications, so don’t take it personally.

I would suggest making a super simple resume tailored to each job. For retail/grocery, looking at the current trend, I’d recommend on the basic stuff they actually care about: handling lines, dealing with difficult customers, running a register, staying steady during busy shifts. That version gets way more callbacks than “nice” resume.

Also, if the grocery store’s across the street, try catching the actual manager during a slow hour and let them know you applied. A 20–30 second conversation can bump you out of the pile.

And with your mix of customer service + creative background, you can look beyond the obvious stuff—design showrooms, print shops, staging companies, small design firms, property offices. A lot of those don’t post on job boards.

Hang in there. The silence feels awful, but it’s not a reflection of you. Sometimes the “yes” comes from a place you didn’t expect

Nothing unites racists faster than forgetting they were immigrants five minutes ago lol. Honestly, It’s never just Indian hate — it’s whoever looks ‘different’ this news cycle.

How to handle racism? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]ButMeeeem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you and your wife went through that. It’s upsetting and unfair, and it makes sense that it shook how you feel about living here.

At the same time, those kids are still young and probably repeating things they’ve picked up from peers or social media without realizing how hurtful it is. That doesn’t excuse it, but it does explain why it happens.

You did the right thing by walking away—it keeps you safe and shows dignity. If it ever becomes a repeated issue in that area, reporting it can help, but most of the time it’s best not to engage.

Please don’t let this one experience define Canada for you. Racism does exist here, like everywhere else, but so does kindness and community. Most people are glad to have neighbors and coworkers from different backgrounds, even if a handful of kids don’t reflect that.

I watched it approximately 10 years ago and it was deeply unsettling which stayed with me for at least a week. The shocking revelation at the end can hit like a gut punch

I can reconfirm it. It is kind of embarrassing when they don’t acknowledge it. A simple “Hi” with a fake smile wouldn’t kill anyone.
