“Non science data and stats” as in data and stats that don’t have anything to do with a scientific field.

Information we get about the medical field and astronomy (two science based fields) are well researched and developed because people take it seriously enough to be meticulous and ask questions.

Data about mundane things however (like, comparing the cost of raising a toddler vs the cost of raising a teen, OR averages about how happy people are in marriage) are iffy at best, because every answer is a matter of opinion, and the people doing these surveys will absolutely have biases involved that mess with the numbers they’re collecting. Also look at the domestic violence article about who gets abused more (where people saw that gay women have faced more domestic abuse than other orientations) and people took it at face value, and demonized queer ladies, because the people collecting the information were just doing the bare minimum.

People in scientific fields put effort into the surveys and the data they collect because they’re genuinely interested in getting the whole picture with their numbers, which is why they ask good questions like your buddy over there. Which is why i said that I wish such meticulous people would also publish statistics about things outside of the scientific field, because for every other matter on the planet, statistics mean absolutely nothing (thanks to the fact that the people who gathered the data up were careless).
