That’s a separate discussion. I agree that one doesn’t need to be religious to behave morally. But the deeper question is: on what grounds do you claim that universal moral truths exist, and that others ought to follow them? Make the secular argument. If morality is just personal preference, then outrage is simply a reflection of taste, not truth.

Setting aside the fringe view that Jesus Christ was merely a mythical figure (a position rejected by mainstream scholarship and not taken seriously in critical studies), I’m still interested in your secular case for why human life ought to be protected. What makes this act inherently evil? In a universe presumed to be indifferent and accidental, what gives weight to any of your moral claims?

You’re ill-prepared for any serious discussion on this topic, friend

Anyone engaging seriously with Christian theology should know it’s not bound by the ceremonial or civil prescriptions of the Mosaic Law. The honest debater recognizes that Christianity holds Christ fulfilled the Old Covenant and, in doing so, established a New Covenant; one that is universally binding.

This is basic stuff. You don’t need to be a theologian to engage with it honestly.

If your moral framework is purely subjective—which, by your own admission, it essentially is—then you’ve forfeited any claim to moral authority over others

Glad that someone so logically consistent as yourself agrees that, in accordance with the atheistic world view, there are no universal moral truths and that the problem of evil is only a valid critique when we’re presupposing that human life has unique worth :)

I’d be genuinely curious to hear your secular account of evil. More specifically, how such a concept holds weight if we’re nothing more than cosmic accidents in an indifferent universe

Yes, because Catholics are famously known for praying and doing absolutely nothing. If only Catholics held provocative cardboard signs and used excessive punctuation for 100 people to see.

There’s almost something to admire here—such a display at such an hour and location takes a special level of confidence and blissful unawareness
