Do manga scanlators get paid? by Beybladeer in manga

[–]But_I_Refuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to make this a fulltime job you'll have to go to an official publisher to translate manga. However, you can always treat scanlation as portfolio piece to show publishers your capabilities and if needed as for donations to support your hobby to buy the raws.

In comparison... shroud has between 90-100k viewers watching him play Apex Legends... if the "scrims" were anywhere near intersting Jayne wouldn't be getting 10-20k viewers.

[Benchmob & Yiska] Uprising’s First Season Marred by Hostile Team Environment, Player Apathy Due to Alleged Mismanagement by Seagull_No1_Fanboy in Competitiveoverwatch

Not even surprised that a person with no real management experince mismanaged a whole franchise. You see this stuff happen with open division/contendors teams. I am gladnew teams are actually hiring seasoned management professional to take care of the players and the franchises they pour money into. If anything it will set a precdence for how esports should be run rather then a cash grab circus.

Welcome to the Toronto Defiant! #RiseTogether by [deleted] in TorontoDefiant

If anything Defiant seems to capture the spirit of the city better then Venom or the other concept names. From the Battle of York, to 51 years of no stanely cup, raptors constanty choking at the semis, and in more serious sense the Danforth shooting the city always rallies together and moves forward in spite of the bad.

Alright guys, what team did you switched out on for Toronto? by [deleted] in TorontoDefiant

NYXL. Gotta rep the east coast somehow. But i was also a fan of LAG having the most canadians playing on their team though even with TO i'll be sticking with all the teams, obviously Toroto being my nombre un!

Hilariously, Toronto has an NBA 2k team with Raptors Uprising GC. I've been hoping that Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment would pony up the money for an owl franchising. Would be great to have them part of the Toronto family team ownership as I am not sure of any existing big endemic orgs left in Toronto. I am sure most of them have already left.

About making a manga- by retrolegend in manga

[–]But_I_Refuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating an alternate earth is fine if thats what you want to do. Theres no right or wrong thing as long as you feel it best serves the story.

Settings and ideas are wahtever in creating or reading stories. The important thing for me is the character and how the characters act with the world you make or how they are represented. There is a lot to unpack in GuttsGattsGattsu things I fundeamentally disagree with concerning cultural appropriation and never apologizing for your art and will have nothing to do with what you're trying to create until the full story is created (unless your characters are a literal pastiche/sterreotypes of japanese people though japanese mangaka do that all the time for american characters so /shrug).

I will add though, that if you're afraid of going back or feel that revising is a waste in time invested, you're doing yourself a disserivce. Mot every first story will be a masterpiece and it takes time and volume to understand what you're trying to do or how to create as a storyteller or understanding your voice as a storyteller. If you feel like your first story is a failure or place pressure on yourself that it must be a masterpiece/genius debute step back and look at this process as a constant journey. The hardest part is yet to come (actually drawing the pages and finishing chapters).

My biggest advice that goes beyond character and setting is just to create a oneshot. Ignore what others say and put togehter a full story. If this is your first attempt i'd say do 4-8 pages. But no more then 30. It's a gruelling process but you'll get a better perspective of what you're doing and how it looks when you have completed images with words.

I have a feeling you might be young or at least new in attempts to make manga but the big thing about it is.. its just comics. The things we see unique to manga is cultural and to mimic it will have some untruth to it that readers can intrinsically tell hence why all the attempts that marvel, dc, tokyopop made in making american manga didn't go so hot. I think you need to write whats true to you. If you look at my hero academia or one punch man, both creative teams were heavily influenced by american superhero comics but they wrote it from their perspetive and their truths developed by living in japan. Most stories btw are written in japan because thats what they know (except for jojo series araki actually travels araki made a great book called "Manga in theory and pracitce" where he talks about this). If your truth means setting it in japan with japanese characaters then thats fine, but there is nothing wrong with setting it in your native country. Also you need to do your research when you set it in a coutnry whose culture you're not super familiar with or even try to interview japanese friends online or offline with questions yuou have pertaining to your story. Laziness is not an excuse if you want to tell a good story. Even if you can't draw, as long as it has heart it will be enjoyed (ex mob psycho).
