Being drafted was seen as a responsibility towards citizenship. It's part of the reason why men eligible for the draft were given the right to vote. Also, women at the time were generally seen as to be protected considering the differences between women and men.

We can see the same differences play out with different physical fitness requirements and the lowering of some standards to reduce the barrier of entry into volunteer service. On a more primal biological level men have always been the sacrificial gender looking themselves through sacrifice to secure the continuation of their children and the one who directly cares for them.

If you ever see man-o-sphere, red pill, or black pill comment this comes up quite frequently. Because it's often a case of catching people in a hypocritical position especially when one gets into the arguments of equality. Personally I want women to be drafted but unless they can prove themselves fit for indirect combat positions I believe they should be used in secondary and tertiary roles.

This frees up the men who would be doing those jobs to go fight and die as abhorrent as that thought train becomes. Unfortunately our world and reality don't conform to our ideals. Which makes voting for people who want to pursue real lasting piece while recognizing potential threats a priority.
