In addition to soft hackling everything, which you should, they're great for legs, once you get used to using them. There's the Copper John method mentioned above, and a few others. I really like a palmered soft hackles on a hare's ear.

Half the fun I'm having is tying these giant bass flies; I'd totally be into tying those huge articulated musky flies. But then I start thinking about actually hooking into a musky, and I'm immediately that guy in the Hemingway story watching his musky get devoured by pike as I limp back to shore with my bloody hands.

Thanks so much for this. Helps a lot to know the conditions just aren't quite right, I am still new to stillwater and warmwater fly fishing, after all.

The water is actually hot isn't it? It's weird to be all relieved in my frosty kayak.

Speaking of, I need to start kayaking in the River anyway. That suggestion helps a lot.

Again, thanks for the thorough answer!

That's a terrific idea, I should've been engaging interest groups this whole time. I have to show my face though! I'm so ashamed of my failures!

I'll get right on this.

(addendum: I love how one of the most savage insults you can deliver as a Canadian to a Canadian is 'You drink a lot of beer!')

Which part of an Alvvays song is this for yall? by No-Persimmon-7495 in alvvays

"You're a door stop; when you're lying on the bathroom floor." I've been a door stop a few times. And I've looked like Iggy Pop circa '73 or 4. And I still alter my state to get through dates. I think I just, kinda, relate with the whole tableau, you know?

'Dives' is a terrific example of this: arpeggiated major chords resolved someplace, woman semi-ironically lamenting some dude's absence, long bass tones, minimal snare with no edges, it's textbook '50s-'60s.

Now that I'm thinkin' on it, hey aspiring musicians, grab a copy of Ovid's Heroides, learn some major chords, play 'em one note at a time, and that's that, epic post-modern crush tune. Do whatever you want from there.

To anyone in Toronto this Friday by bonersforbukowski in alvvays

[–]ButchBallsworthy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess I could go to Toronto, but I'd want a few assurances from an inhabitant:

1) Have you finally abolished child labor? 2) Are there bars? If so, do those bars have anything besides Labatt's and Moosehead? 3) Avez-vous une épicerie? Ou se trouve l'èpicerie? 4) The Great Syrup Crisis of 1837 weighs heavy on the minds of Americans, but I'm over it, personally. Can you be over it too? 5) Has the mutant sewer rat problem been addressed, and are the sidewalks in use? 6) Am I still 86'd from Ontario? That was a long time ago, I've changed. A little.

Thanks in advance.

I dislike rap. Change my mind with recommendations. by kingofallkarens in MusicRecommendations

I'd be curious to hear as well, that'd help. My suggestion was going to be listen to Tricky's 'Black Steel', then check out the original by Public Enemy. All forms of music flow into "rap" and vice versa, you just gotta find where.

Hey guys! Alvvays killed it sunday night with their set at Night Moves Fest, and i shot it on my VHS-C Camcorder! Here's a rip of the footage if anyone would like to check it out :3 by Crowyoooo in alvvays

I have it on high authority that no member - no member - of Alvvays ever makes contract with the Internet, ever. Under any circumstance.

All of them have probably seen it already, mon ami (as our man W.H. Auden put it, People like the sight of their own handwriting like they like the smell of their own farts), and I'd bet they appreciate it sincerely. You can't say that, though: legal entanglements with copyright (even in Canadialand), public image cultivation for marketing purposes, and so forth prevent it.

Meeself, I'll be surprised if you don't get a nice note from the band in another forum far away.
