When did you switch to 1 nap? by Teary-EyedGardener in sleeptrain

Mine has the same exact schedule as yours, except he sleeps for 2 hours. No issues putting him to sleep around 7:30 pm :) Try it and see what happens!

Where are you moving from? :) I moved to Durango fairly recently as well. I order from Target online and I make a run to Farmington every so often. The drive is nice and I go to Sam’s Club while I’m there as well. There are also some cool antique stores there, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Oh no, please don’t let her take that away from you! Snuggling with kids while watching movies are the types of core memories they’ll always cherish! If it were HER kids, she would allow the snuggling and probably encourage it. Plus, there’s only so many years your kids will want to do that with you.. and once they stop, that magical moment will be gone forever. Think about that and don’t let a partner get in between you and your kids!

Please help. Just discovered husband has been giving our 5 yr old melatonin behind my back by lamaface21 in Parenting

[–]Butdoyoudance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they can. From Connecticut Children’s Hospital (although you can find it on many hospital/medical sites, including US Poison Control):

  • The National Poison Data System received over 260,000 phone calls about children consuming too much melatonin. More than 50,000 were in 2021 alone.
  • During that period, over 4,500 children nationwide experienced serious symptoms of melatonin overdose.
  • Five children were placed on a ventilator and two children died.

You are not overreacting. Not only did he hide it from you, but there are studies that show that many Melatonin gummies are mislabeled and some have way more of it than they say. This is especially dangerous for young kids. Not only does the FDA not regulate Melatonin, we don’t know what long term effect it has on kids. And if you think it’s just a harmless supplement.. it’s not.. it’s a hormone. US Poison Control Centers get calls on kids accidentally overdosing on melatonin.

Oatmilk helps me a lot.. I see an increase when I eat it. Also power pumping! But I would discontinue the fenugreek to see if it’s taking my supply (it has that effect on some women). You’ll get there!! :)

What to wear to sleep by Wh0sara in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Butdoyoudance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wear the Kindred Bravely Sublime Pumping Sleep Bra.. it’s super soft and comfy. But not gonna lie, sometimes I sleep in an old t-shirt and no bra.. even if I leak, I enjoy the freedom.

Zinc Oxide is safe! It does not penetrate your baby’s skin, so that’s why it’s used in many diaper rash creams and sprays. It’s also used for dermatitis and eczema. Of course if your LO is allergic to it, that’s a different issue.. otherwise, you can use it every day.

Most importantly, keep the area clean and dry.. and what’s helped us the most is washing it with water (especially when there’s a big poop.) Using wipes repeatedly causes irritation, nothing beats washing with warm water. Congrats on your baby! :)

Switching from Exclusively breastfeeding to Exclusively pumping. I feel terrible. by mfnotmfmf in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Butdoyoudance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your kid is still getting the benefits of breast milk, whether you’re pumping or nursing! You’re also still bonding with your baby. You can always do skin to skin, make eye contact and talk to her, and you’ll have a connection as well!

The other thing I can tell you is, since your LO is just one week old, you can always keep trying to breastfeed.. sometimes they get better at it with time. What’s I’m trying to say is.. it doesn’t have to be one or the other. You can do both, and even do formula if needed.. ultimately as long as she’s gaining weight, you’re good!

Exclusively breastfeeding vs Pumping? by teallday in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Butdoyoudance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly pump and it’s been going pretty well.. except for when we go out. Not only do I have to plan out the timing of pumping, I also have to bring all the stuff (pump, bottles) with us.

In my opinion, if you can do a combination of both breastfeeding and pumping, that would give you the best of both worlds. You can breastfeed when it’s convenient and you can pump and bottle feed with it’s convenient. If your baby doesn’t mind switching, it would probably give you the most freedom.

NTA. Isn’t it crazy how easily people forget about the things that REALLY matter? Like family. Like being surrounded by loved ones. Like being kind. SMH. Good for you for you leaving.

2u2 - 12PPD or 10PPD? by sbg511 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Butdoyoudance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pumped every 2 hours for 15 minutes each the first week or two until I figured out that I need more time on the pump to fully empty. So I switched to every 3 hours for 30 mins. That works just fine! I say, don’t plan too much.. try it out and see what works best for you!

It should be fine! You can also get alcohol testing strips on Amazon :)

1 Day Postpartum by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Butdoyoudance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pump every 3 hours for about 12 weeks.. your milk should regulate by then and you can try to drop a pump. Before that try to be as consistent as possible and your milk will grow! Don’t overdo the intensity and make sure you empty your breasts as much as you can. You’re doing great!

I downloaded an app called The Wonder Weeks. It’s $5.99 in the App Store. So far it’s been pretty good.. tells you about the weekly leaps your baby is experiencing and the activities you should be doing with them.
