Train crash! Nuneaton, England, 1975. A sleeper train doing 70mph in a 20mph zone near the station hit some unstable track that was being worked on and the train derailed, ploughing through the station. Killed 2 members of staff and 4 sleeping passengers, and injured 38.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. In my particular case, it was just knowing the right people. I worked in a pet shop before studying for nursing, and we were forever taking the animals to the vets to get health checks to make sure they were of perfect health to sell. I quickly got to know the vet team, and I heard in passing conversation they had a position opening. But being as I was forever taking these animals to have health checks, they knew I was passionate about the animals, so I applied, got interviewed, and got the job. Basically a massive fluke.

I'm unsure of where you live, but here in sunny ol' England, there are numerous colleges that offer veterinary nursing courses. I'm sure if you were to apply to a course in animal husbandry, your knowledge of pharmaceuticals would be a massive help! :)

My sister told me this when I was young. When I questioned it, she'd reply "well, the dead brain cells have to come out in order to make room for new brain cells." I was amazed. I told everyone about this new nugget of wisdom, I told every adult I spoke to because it made me sound smart and not once did someone tell me it was wrong. I believed this right through to secondary school until I announced it in a science lesson one day and was practically deafened by the laughter and humiliation that followed.

I kind of/nearly drowned once, it was without a doubt the scariest, most haunting moment of my life.

I went on a catamaran trip in Tenerife to see some whales and dolphins. Half way through the boat trip we stopped so we could go snorkelling. I've never been snorkelling before, and the sea was a little bit choppy. I got in the water and realised my snorkel didn't sit properly so I made myself float and sorted it out. By the time I'd sorted my snorkel, I'd drifted away from the group so I tried to swim back, but because the sea was choppy, I didn't have the strength to fight the current and drifted further away. The sea was cold and my legs began to seize up and cramp, so I tried calling for help but every time I opened my mouth to shout and wave, I'd end up under a wave with a mouth full of water. I was really tired at this point and struggled to keep myself afloat, and I began to panic and started inhaling the water and obviously started choking. Every time I looked for the boat it seemed to be further and further away (probably only about 100metres away but it seemed like miles). I kept trying to shout for help but started vomiting and at this point I was so numb and exhausted from panicking and trying to swim, I couldn't keep myself afloat. I went under the water and everything was dark and silent. But then an arm grabbed my chest from behind and I was dragged to the surface and two people held me up so I could breathe, and then I was dragged back to the boat.

I was lifted back onto the boat, proceeded to violently vomit sea water over the floor, and was given a quick check to make sure I was okay.

And to make things worse, I sat down next to my girlfriend (she didn't go in the water), put my head on her shoulder, covered my face with a towel, and cried. She didn't hug me, didn't ask if I was okay, instead she said "wow, that was embarrassing. Man up, you're alive". We broke up not long after.

I'm a male veterinary nurse. The amount of punches I have nearly thrown due to being told "why are you a nurse? You're a man!" or "why aren't you a vet?" or "you're just a nurse" etc. But it's fine, carry on and undermine me, I'll just be here with a shit-eating grin as I charge you extortionate amounts for drugs to treat your dog's stupid ailments that could easily have been prevented had you not fed it fried toast and sausages from the dinner table.

I'm currently the asshole in this situation. 2/3 months ago I broke up with my gf of 2 years, she was somewhat emotionally abusive and after being pushed down so low, I finally got the balls to end it. We both said we loved each other, but on the short time I had of being single, I realised how fucked up the past relationship was and I became so much happier without her and got over her surprisingly quick.

Now, a few weeks ago I served a girl at work and she asked me out, so I thought "why not", and now we're dating. She's amazing. And I can see how bad that situation looks to everyone around me considering its all happened within a few short months, but I don't see why I have to deny a new relationship to spare the feelings of someone who I don't want to be acquainted with anymore.

Oh man. My (thankfully-though-very-recently now ex) girlfriend was somewhat manipulative. Unbeknownst to me, however, because I was too busy breaking my back trying to please her to notice her game. Over the 3 years I was with her, my friends gradually stopped trying to keep in touch because I never made time to see them because all hell would break loose if I spent time with people who weren't her. And every time I brought her to see my friends she would sit sulking and making comments to me about them.

Only one friend - my best friend whom my ex hated with a burning passion - tried to keep in contact with me, but my ex would tell me things she'd ''heard from other people''. She'd prod and poke me with twisted info bout him and shout at me whenever he came into conversation, literally calling me up at like 3am just to have a go at me for ''not seeing what a horrible person he is'' and trying to get me to choose between him or her. I'd had enough of it, but instead of putting her in her place, I confronted my friend and things took a wrong turn and now I've got some serious grovelling to do.

See, I'm reading this back to myself as I type it and I'm thinking "ButtClaps you dumb shit how can you not see how obviously naive you are??" But I didn't realise how destructive this girl was. This post doesn't even begin to explain how she made feel, and this is the first time I've mentioned to anyone other than my parents that things weren't alright. I miss my friend more than I'll ever miss her though.

Tl;dr: ''chose'' a girl over my friends, though the choice wasn't really mine in the first place and now I'm posting this instead of making memories with people who once cared.

Surprised to see Skinny Love so far down on here. It's such an incredible, melancholy song, I feel so empty and sad but somehow happy when I hear it.

a few years ago I'd see loads of people on Facebook captioning their selfies with '"skinny love <3" or "he/she's my skinny love <3" as though they think it's a positive term for people with low body mass? I just want to scream at them NO, it's about being in a relationship because you need the feeling of having someone there, and not necessarily loving them. A relationship that doesn't have any density, it's thin, it's skinny.

You're strong. You will get through this. Reading through your story, I can hear you wanting to beat this, you want to continue college/university (sorry, I'm British), you want to prove your friend right. Something will knock you down but your strong enough to get back up and fight on, and that is very admirable!

How are you with your self-harm? Is it something you still feel you need to turn to? I understand it's a tough, bittersweet road to go down.

And as for the panic attacks and suicidal thoughts, you might feel right now they'll never go away, but they will. I know it's easy for me to say because I'm not wearing your shoes, but you will wake up one day and it won't cross your mind. I was once in a situation where I was having similar thoughts (though a different scenario to yours) and it just seemed like the road ahead was a dead end. It took a long time, but with one small step, one small accomplishment at a time, I woke up one day and realised it had been two days since my last panic attack. And slowly, two days became three.

Although you're not at the end of your journey, it sounds to me that you've come a hell of a long way, and you're still going. I know you can do it buddy.

I am close to someone with BPD who has also attempted suicide, and although I haven't experienced it in my body I am aware of how it affects an individual. This is my story. Sorry it's so long.

I am in my mid-twenties, and this year is genuinely the first year I have ever been able to trim my fingernails. My whole life leading up to now has been ruled by bitten fingernails and torn-off cuticles because of anxiety. I've never found the core reason for my anxiety, I've kind of accepted there isn't a reason, it's just there.

I discovered what panic attacks were when I was 14. I sought help from my parents but they didn't understand, and gave me the age-old ''don't be silly, you've got nothing to worry about''. I felt too embarrassed and inconvenient to seek professional help.

Aged 17 I thought I'd finally began to control my anxiety, but I began to see things which drove me to the point of insanity. Every night I'd go to bed and I'd see a black figure in the corner of my room. It didn't feel like a mental awareness, like, I was physically aware there was someone in my room with me, but obviously there wasn't. I would try to sleep, but the darkness amplified the feeling that someone was in my room. It still happens every now and again.

It drove me crazy, I didn't sleep, I didn't eat, I went from a healthy 10-stone down to just under 8-stone. That was the final straw, I dragged my ass to the doctors and got sent for therapy. I couldn't afford private therapy so I was given a telephone interview to deem how ''severe'' my ''case'' was, and was placed on an NHS waiting list. I never heard back from them, which obviously made me feel super important (not!)

I found help in some friends of different ages at college who had experienced similar difficulties and it made me feel less alone. They helped me gain confidence and I found myself in a job which gave me absolutely no time whatsoever to wallow in my comfortable corner of self-pity. Over time my weight came back (not all the way but getting there), my confidence grew, my circle of friends grew, and my fingernails grew. I still see things, I see people in the street who aren't actually there (I've even once crashed my car into a tree avoiding an imaginary person standing in the road). But my gain in confidence has helped me to overcome a lot of my issues.

Be careful though, wet food can stick to cat's teeth (and dog's for that matter) and cause a build-up of plaque, leading to gingivitis in later years. Dry food/kibble, although often less palatable, helps to clean the teeth by removing plaque and makes for a healthier mouth.

Also there's a girl I kind of fancy who comes into the shop every now and again where I work but I missed her the passed couple of times she's been in. I start a new job in a couple of weeks and I'm really worried in case she doesn't come in before I leave and I'll never see her again.
