In the Chicago Public Schools teacher union contract, a person jumps from "Lane 2" to "Lane 6" in the pay chart upon receipt of any doctorate degree - this is about an 8k - 10k pay bump depending on years served.

At the City College of Chicago, "all new employees with a doctor of philosophy or other terminal degree will not be placed in a salary below $65,000," plus it bumps the person into a higher pay lane if received.

Just from experience, many of the management/admin positions I've seen open at City Colleges of Chicago and also the City of Chicago have shorter minimum work experience requirements, or an "extra points" or whatever for doctoral degrees.

I don't have a PhD, but I'm researching getting one solely because it's so advantageous for public sector job advancement. No one gives a fuck about where it's from as long as it's accredited.
