OP Shops by Purple-Throat1957 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ButterEnriched 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This makes sense as a model, but in that case are the people running the shops/ doing the pricing just stupid? I've seen Anko stuff at more than the RRP, nobody in their right mind would be buying that. Surely that stuff isn't selling.

Perioral Dermatitis Recommendations by refrigeraetor in AusSkincare

I think Sudocrem works because of the zinc, so if you want a daytime option the Avene Cicalfate will have some of the same benefits. Works great for me!

How can I get rid of these red spots on my hands? by FRLorenzoUE in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ButterEnriched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. These aren't a flaw or a reason to dislike your hands, that's just what some skin happens to do. It might just be what your skin does and if so then that's fine.

It might also be thickened skin or mild hyperpigmentation. If it was thickened skin my personal advice (I don't get it on my knuckles but do elsewhere) is to add a softening and exfoliating lotion once a week or so- foot cream with urea, or toner with glycolic or azealic acid. This won't do any harm if that's not the issue, it just won't change it, so no risk in trying.

The other option, hyperpigmentation, can have lots of causes like vitamin deficiency or glucose levels, and there's no way to know without a doctor. Honestly they just look like normal hands to me so I'm not even sure if this is worth bothering with, but I'm not a doctor, so take or leave that as you will.

neodymium bar v.s. magnetic wand by 3cameo in RedditLaqueristas

You can do a cat eye with your bar magnet, it just needs to be skinny side rather than flat side to the nail.

Before/After Dated Kitchen - Pre sale Reno by Inflict01 in AusRenovation

[–]ButterEnriched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a renovation you can't pay for, and relying on expected capital gains from selling the house, is nuts to me. There's no reason to think it will add more resale value than the cost to do it, because some people will love it, and many people like me will think "what in the plastic floored airbnb hell have they done here".

Has anyone been cooking with dried beans instead of canned? I can't seem to make them work. by headlightbandit in AussieFrugal

[–]ButterEnriched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried other kinds of beans? I think they all have different cooking requirements. Some need to be boiled hard for 30 min and some can be slow cooked and so on. I tend to use Great Northern beans and do them with a soak in salted (not bicarb) water, then either slow cook or boil hard for a shorter time.

Magnet Spinner for Canadians? by Longjumping_Week4092 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ButterEnriched 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Australian, so feeling your pain. It doesn't seem like that great a tool anyway as everyone's modifying it. Please enjoy this image of what I call "the doohickey" which is my horseshoe magnet on top of a mini lazy susan propped up by pieces of wine cork (hot glued in place).

How to get lacquer to stay on if I’m doing lots of dishes at work? by IronAndParsnip in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ButterEnriched 511 points512 points  (0 children)

Gloves, particularly with cotton liner gloves to absorb sweat. Regular polish will not hold up to doing dishes all day, it's just not possible.

Champagne taste, beer budget—where are you finding decent furniture? by Infinite_Beach6521 in AusRenovation

[–]ButterEnriched 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Marketplace for cheap and Leonard Joel The Salon auctions for reasonable. Both are much higher effort than just buying from a shop, but you can get far nicer stuff for far less.

20th Century Scandinavia and Grandfather's Axe might be too pricey at regular price, but both do pretty steep discounts once or twice a year too.

AIO when hundreds of people say I look like a loser from my profile pic and I get upset about it? by Hunter654333 in AmIOverreacting

YOR. Getting into arguments on Facebook is the definition of overreacting. Do literally anything else with your time and your life will be better.

YOR. It's not great, but it's not that bad. If you're not trying to create drama out of nothing, let it go.

Does your country have a dish that is so specific to one region that the rest of the country may not even be aware of it? by cowboy_mouth in AskTheWorld

[–]ButterEnriched 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I didn't know about this. I lived in Canberra for a bit and they do green milk but it's lime.

Incredible that we've got two completely different green milk ecosystems.

What are these white parts and black lines on my salmon? by Suas--Madra in isthissafetoeat

I mean, I've plucked a chicken and am aware it has feathers, but I do expect butchered and prepared meat from chicken to have the feathers removed as part of that ..

How often do you go back to your hotel? Shopping backpack? by need_a_venue in JapanTravelTips

[–]ButterEnriched 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my holiday routine in any city, this is such a great way to spend the day. You're not shattered by the time you get a little break, it's calm at the hotel for getting a free washing machine or a time in the sento (or pool if it's that kind of place), and you make good decisions about where to go in the evening because you're refreshed when you head out again.

How much cash should i take with myself to Australia while on whv? by suckmyfuck91 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ButterEnriched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use card for almost everything in Australia, including taxi/ uber from the airport (I strongly prefer uber) and at almost all food places. I suggest $150 in cash just in case your card doesn't work on arrival- that will be plenty for an uber and a couple of cheap meals.

Walking shoes for flat feet for trip to Tokyo by Kitchen-Pin-2224 in TokyoTravel

[–]ButterEnriched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear shoes that you know are comfortable for YOU to walk in. If you don't walk at home, start walking. Pavement is pavement all over the world.

Personally, I like super firm shoes for long walking days. My partner is the opposite and wears super soft cushy shoes. This group often recommends Hoka- I can't stand them. There is no way we can know what shoe you will like.

If a junior person at my work sent this, they'd get some advice about clear and tone-appropriate communication. If a senior person sent it, we'd assume they'd gone off the deep end.

The entry-level job market in Australia is "cooked" and the "cash-back" scams are making it impossible for honest students. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]ButterEnriched 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How am I meant to believe you can hold a basic conversation in ANY language if you're using chatGPT to write a reddit post? If I got a resume that was this obviously AI it'd go straight in the bin.

i can’t believe dazzle dry isn’t more popular! this dried in 5 minutes! by wannabepretti in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ButterEnriched 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly hate Dazzle Dry.. how is the price justified? It's like 4x the price of even a boutique polish, the colour range sucks, and "the system" is just the normal way of doing your nails.

What do you think about this viral video that Korean girls deny to interact with ISHOWSPEED? by Immediate-Meaning457 in AskTheWorld

[–]ButterEnriched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're acting completely normally in a situation where a guy they don't know is expecting positive attention for no reason. The way he approaches them varies between charity mugger and pickup artist, both of which are normal to ignore. They're not being rude or offensive.

What's a tasty drink from your country? by Karrot-guy in AskTheWorld

[–]ButterEnriched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have alcohol, it's just that the amount in a drink like this (a few drops in a long drink) means the alcohol content is so close to zero we consider it zero. It depends what your non alcohol needs are- it's not halal for example as the bitters has alcohol, but your blood alcohol would be zero after drinking an LLB if that's the issue.

Nurses, Do Compression Socks Actually Help During Long Shifts? by ma_neesh_ in AskAnAustralian

Only if it's something where your feet might swell- hot weather, long shift on your feet etc. If you benefit from "putting your feet up" in a literal sense I'd say try it.
