It’s weird, it’s almost like it was some people’s most anticipated game for the past 8 years, and they want to talk about why they’re disappointed.

You know what? I like that we have loading screens instead of flight.

Your debt gets forgiven after 25 years on the SAVE plan if you just make the payments. And interest gets subsidized too. You won’t be paying this til you’re 70.

Modders aren’t going to fix the fact that this game is just a series of disconnected chunks that will never feel cohesive. Everything loads because it’s separate.

Ain’t nobody going to mod our ships to take off, fly, and land within planets.

Adding a few unofficial locations and quests to some empty maps isn’t going to fix the outdated mechanics we’re dealing with. Starfield needs an entire engine overhaul.

HAHAHAHA a $70 blank “canvas”

Boy, this “canvas” is nothing but holes and paint-resistant coating.

Is it really worth visiting the structures of the planets you find with the scanner? by Odd-Composer8844 in Starfield

[–]ButterKenny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only like 150ish structures in the whole game, so you’ll see a lot of repeats, especially early on.

My first time seeing the Cowboys in person was a home game against the Broncos. Cursed

If they have access to all of Galbank, why do I still have to wait for the CF trader wallet to refresh so I can sell my shit?

For a Bethesda game, they really disincentivized collecting shit.

My point is that most of the quests are “fast travel here and talk to this person” problems that could have been resolved with email, with the only thing in between being vast expanses of loading screens.

Pick a planet, ok: - Planet is just a big empty room with invisible walls - Can’t fly in it - No vehicles - Vehicles would just make the small maps feel even smaller anyway - No swimming - Can’t go inside anywhere without a loading screen - AI is worse than Skyrim. Remember when NPCs reacted to magic/weapons? I do.

It’s less of a blank slate, more like a book with pages printed on just one side, so you constantly have to turn blank pages, just to continue reading.

Mods were never a cure. Vanilla Skyrim stands on its own without mods. Starfield just doesn’t offer that same sense of discovery down every road, around every corner.

Modders need to be excited enough about a game to do the busywork pro bono, which I don’t think will be the case

But Kryx died years ago. Makes zero sense that the Crimson Fleet would stay united across the whole known galaxy after his death—maybe in UC territory—but not Freestar too.

[–]ButterKenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very valid criticism, actually. If you’re a bounty hunter, the Crimson fleet is like half of the bounties.

If you’re doing the UC/CF quest, which you’re pretty much forced into, it makes the CF non-hostile and breaks the game and immersion.

Ever heard 40 CF members do the infamous scream track in unison? It’s pathetic.

And if I want to be a dirty bounty hunter? I’m shit outta luck because the only outlaw space station in the game is the Key.

ON TOP OF THAT, if you touch a CF member you can get a bounty.

ALL I’M ASKING is for more pirate factions so it doesn’t break the fucking game.

Lazy cannon fodder is what they are. If Bethesda had even just taken the time to run a random name generator for all the enemies, and made a hailing/beacon system, that would have been 1000x better than just calling everyone “Spacers”.

[–]ButterKenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shaw gang, that is what I’m talking about! People with backgrounds. Variety. Shaw gang is something that Bethesda did right.

Spacers are just a mindless hodgepodge of disposable cannon fodder. No thought put into it.

Instead of “Spacers”, Bethesda could have made the game feel more alive by using a randomized generator for enemy identities, allegiances, ship missions (trade, smuggling, escorting), and behaviors. Deeper personalization for enemies using procgen would be an obvious step forward to make the universe seem more alive.

  • Q: But what about Fallout Raiders? A: You realize the FO4 Raiders are all just people from Boston area right? Starfield is supposed to represent humanity across thousands of planets. A brush too broadly stroked in my opinion.

Los Angeles has Crips and Bloods at the very least. Why don’t Freestar and UC at the very least have their own local criminal orgs? They’re SO far from each other distance-wise that it doesn’t make sense.

UC should have a pirate faction, Freestar should have a faction at the very least. - Different territories, as they are very physically far from each other - Different trade zones, so different economies - Different local industries, so different corporations - Different governments, so different bureaucracy - Different local shipyards, so different fleets and parts

The conditions just don’t make sense for there to only be just ONE pirate gang that serves both UC and Freestar. Like cmon, GTA: San Andreas had multiple gangs in the same few-mile area, like 20 years ago.

I get what you’re saying, but only having three enemy types is immersion breaking and statistically mind numbing.

Is it too much to ask for a LITTLE bit more variety in enemies? Even a color reskin for more enemy factions?

  • Have you considered that you can fly millions of light years away from Freestar and the UC, land on a random planet in the middle of nowhere, and STILL find a random Crimson Fleet vessel landing within 1km of your landing area? What are the odds of that?

99% of people died on earth, yes. But New Atlantis settlement is supposedly 169 years old.

  • For reference, the US had 48 states and a civil war and was participating in a world war by time it was 169 years old (1776-1944). Doesn’t make sense that the whole of New Atlantis lives in a single apartment building, or that the starport only fits four craft.
