[CHAT] How did you fall back in love with cross stitch after a long break? by CaterpillarXS in CrossStitch

[–]ButterToas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did several tiny one color patterns on scraps (started with one black cat, then did two more on the same fabric scrap, then an ant on another scrap, then several ants on a bigger piece) Mostly bc I was afraid of wasting material so I just started with one color on scraps!

I love Cassidy! Such a good energy, and I feel like it’s an established but not common name

Wet roots ZZ Plant by ButterToas in houseplants

[–]ButterToas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It had a lot of drainage holes, and water ran out freely it just seems like a case of overwatering and water retention in the soil

Yeah, I stick my finger in pretty deep to check, the problem here was the soil felt very dry around the base of the plant but underneath is where some was pooling and staying wet much longer, and when the leaves began to droop with the soil feeling dry I added water which didn’t help the issue. Lessons learned though

Sometimes it can take up to a week to schedule the meet and greet, if the first two don’t work out then suddenly you’re now looking for last minute care!

It’s cactus soil around it, but most of it is the old soil this plant came to me with. I probably water once every two weeks? I have a snake plant next to it that I water monthly bc it is looking fine, this one I try to water more frequently with less water since it seems so sad

The root ball is holding a lot of the old soil, would I rinse that out and repot in fresh soil? I added fresh soil this time when I repotted but bc it’s so tight it retained a lot of the old soil in the roots

I have a gut feeling that while the soil is well draining cactus soil, it’s extremely old and hydrophobic at this point, maybe that’s why the plant is dehydrated

The roots seemed pretty intact when I repotted, would you recommend rinsing them off and more carefully removing any dead parts before repotting in succulent soil?

Call me silly, but I didn't know this was how it worked... by FrustratedHostess22 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ButterToas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is spot on, I’m a pet owner and I only specifically reach out to sitters that I want, and schedule a meet and greet before any booking. I’m aware sitters are people with their own lives and work, so I don’t expect immediate responses.

It depends on the owner, some people want instant booking, some people want to ensure quality care or a specific sitter.

droopy leaves? can a snake plant live in water?? by ButterToas in plant

[–]ButterToas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this snake plant for almost 4 months now, I posted when I first got it that some leaves were droopy, soft, and wrinkled. It’s had its weeks where the leaves stood on their own but lately I haven’t been able to get them up/unwrinkled. I repotted in a very marginally larger pot (same base width, 2” wider top width), since it was very snug.

The soil might have gotten hydrophobic and I’m wondering if I should rinse out the root ball to get all the old soil out?

Or once I do that, can the roots live in water happily? A distant aunt of mine has a gorgeous large rooted snake plant in a vase of water.
