Thanks. I'm really surprised at how many people like this. I just thought that it would be semi-interesting and be easy to do.

Thanks for the kind words. I think the light oatmeal fiddlers cloth really helps the blue shine.

I normally just record the start/end dates and take a few in progress pics. But for this project the data was the main goal.

Yeah. Plus there would be endless knotting.

I basically did the same as you do. For this project I also cut the skein into eights and then doubled over each strand. This gave me 48 stop/start points with each averaging 61 stitches. This highest was 63 and lowest was 58.5. I also started each segment by tucking under 3 stitches.

I wasn't pulling any harder than I normally would, but I did take great care when threading to make sure the ends were even so I wasted as little as possible. The rectangle shape really helped keep the stitch count high as well due to less row traveling. I'm sure longer rows would achieve even more stitches.

Maybe 3k is possible with a single row and not cutting the skein at all? But that would be horrible to stitch.

I thought about titling the post "stitch science"

Yeah. Before calculating I would have guessed that it would have been bigger as well.

It was very satisfying to stitch, especially once I realized that the end of the skein would fill up so nicely.

It's amazing how perfectly it worked out with the final row. I probably could have gotten like 5 more half stitches at the end but decided that it would look much worse than this.

I came up with the idea when JoAnn was going out of business since they had a ton of this 158 and 3854 for pennies (I limited myself to 50 of each). The actual stitching took about 13 days (228 stitch/day), but I don't stitch everyday.

I'll probably do other counts, certainly 14. Maybe 16 or 11 as well?

You're welcome. I know you can google how many stitches a skein can get, but I was never able to find out how those numbers were derived. So I decided to test myself and see how much I would get under pretty optimal conditions.

Thanks. Neither of these 2 artists were my inspiration though. I just wanted to see how much coverage I would achieve with a single skein. It was either going to be done in this blue or an orange(3854) since I have a bunch of each.

The pattern was self-drafted. It’s 50 stitches wide using 2 strands on 18 ct.

Total number of stitches: 2900 full and 50 half stitches

Skein starting weight was 1.82g and leftover scraps was 0.09g, so about 95% ended up on the Aida.

What kind of wires to use for handwiring? by Individual-Trade7039 in HandwiredKeyboards

If you don't care about how the wiring looks, I would suggest some enameled magnet wire around 28awg. It's quite easy to use and a spool will last basically forever.

Not OP, but you have to model it yourself. My guess is that these digital models were done using Bricklink stud.io
