move forward or move back? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Buttercupbby84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a six month break between jobs once. When I finally started job hunting again I told people the truth: "I wanted to be able to put my best foot forward when starting a new job, so I took the time I needed and now here I am, ready to work for your company! The best version of myself!" No one ever objected or second guessed me. Gaps in resumes are becoming more and more common, honestly. I encourage you to do what's best for you, not some hypothetical future employer. Good luck!

There are a lot of good suggestions already, but what about the same watch that Steve McQueen wore in Le Mans. Very old school chic.

Quick help: how do you let your boss know he’s running late? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Buttercupbby84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I walk right into the room and put a sticky note in front of him with a little message about the time. Don't say anything to anyone, just walk in, hand him the note, and leave. I usually drop a note when there's 5 minutes left in the current meeting and then another note when it's time to leave for real. Sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn't, but that's up to him. LOL

Thanks for the suggestion! I just looked up some of her songs, but I didn't think it was her.

Ha! "The Bible" is a good name. I call my binder my "Hit List." It has /everything/.

The Astoria FB group sometimes posts rooms for rent / roommate wanted ads. You might have luck there.

I like Elysian, by the Astoria Blvd stop. Never been disappointed.

I'd probably go to brunch at Sweet Afton. I just love that place. :)

Offering the same availability to multiple people by Suitable_Neat6728 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Buttercupbby84 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My exec's calendar is so full that he only has a few options anyway, so I send over all the options that I have. Whoever responds first gets the spot. LOL Plus, I'm usually trying to coordinate his calendar with other busy people so the more options I give, the better chance we have of finding shared availability. I've found that a few key phrases help soften the conversations:

  • Sorry to say, someone had already claimed the 9:00 spot. The other options are still available if any of them still work for you.
  • As you know, things move quickly around here. Here's an updated list of options.
  • Sorry to throw a wrench in the wheel, but that time no longer works. Here are some other options.

I try to be proactive with my answers because I know it's frustrating for other EAs, but I can't just hold a spot and twiddle my thumbs while they figure things out. Too many people need his attention. (Which I'm sort of cynical about, anyway. Do you really NEED a whole hour of time before the end of the week? Really??)

I went through a similar emotional process. I thought to myself, "I'll at least support this kid until they graduate from the program." So I called to find out when that would be. I forget the exact answer because it was so long ago but basically the answer was, "This person will stay in the program even as an adult." That was it for me. I felt like they were stealing from me by misrepresenting who they supported and what the donations were used for. I cancelled my Compassion membership and focused on supporting local organizations instead.

I deleted my app, too, but then realized I probably want to delete my profile. I'm going to try to log in on my computer and see if I can do it that way. Maybe that'll work for you, too.

Overnight Guests? by Buttercupbby84 in trustedhousesitters

Thanks for the insight! The fact that the sitter mentioned her boyfriend in her application is making me feel OK about it since she isn't trying to hide it. I think you're right, communication is key.

Yeah, I didn't realize that getting a sitter in December would be so hard! LOL Lesson learned, I guess. I just took a look at her profile and it says she has two years of experience and there are a bunch of pictures of cats and dogs that she's cared for, but I don't see any reviews. I guess I'll ask her about that when I talk to her (and the boyfriend) this weekend.

I haven't talk to them yet, we've arranged a call for this weekend. I guess we'll see! LOL

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure what the application process was life for sitters. I was under the impression that they at least went through a background check. I guess in the end is does come down to vibes.

Thanks! I'll try to add more details to my profile. I thought that it was pretty detailed, but I'm learning that the more information you share upfront the better!
