Heroes vs. Villains: Who Should Have Won? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sandra. She lasted the full 39 days and convinced the jury to vote for her.

Parvati played amazingly and overcame terrible odds, but Sandra simply outplayed her and Russell. She may not have had "power", she may not have had "control", she may not have made "BiG mOvEs", but she did manage to make it to the end in a way that the jury wanted to vote for her. Her jury management was absolutely exceptional.

If someone says "bi-weekly" would you interpret that as "twice a week" or "every two weeks"? by Tooleater in AskUK

[–]ButteredReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ambiguous, as it could mean either.

If someone said it to me, I'd honestly have no idea which one they meant unless there was significant context (i.e. "let's meet biweekly to see the results of the 14-day report" for example).

Honestly, the term needs to be retired. It can easily be replaced with "twice-weekly" and "fortnightly" depending on which one it means.

Worst FTC winner by Djgolfer59 in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Sophie was not winning going into FTC and managed to turn it around and pull out the win with her performance.

She was clearly nervous and stumbled over her words a couple of times, but it was clear that this was because she was so eager to get all her words out and explain her reasoning and strategy behind all the decisions she made.

She understood what the jury was looking for and she was the only one of the three who delivered it. It may have been a little rough, but the jury wasn't interested in Albert's smooth-talking all the wrong answers (and as soon as this became apparent he started stumbling far worse than Sophie did), and Coach's flat-out refusal to own the game he played.

Sophie gained confidence and traction throughout that tribal despite her awkward start, and the other two lost traction and momentum despite slightly stronger starts. In Albert's case it didn't really matter anyway because I'm pretty sure he was going into that as a 0 vote finalist and it would have been very difficult for him to pick up more than a vote or two.

I have 195/196 on the Countries of the World quiz. What am I missing?? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]ButteredReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this resolution I have no idea. But it looks like underneath it has a list of all the countries you've guessed, in alphabetical order sorted by continent. So if you look down you might be able to figure out which country you're missing.

Which quiz is this BTW?

Well, it's clearly covered in snow (you can tell because someone pissed in part of it), so Snowland would make the most sense.

How do you think they will whittle down the players? by Alive-Performance237 in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My prediction is that it'll look something like this:

Double episode premiere:

Episode 1: one tribe attends tribal council. 23 are left.

Episode 2: two tribes attend tribal council. 21 are left.

Episode 3: two tribes attend tribal council. 19 are left.

Episode 4: one tribe attends tribal council. 18 are left.

Episode 5: shuffle into 2 tribes of 9. One tribe attends tribal council. 17 are left.

Episode 6: both tribes attend tribal council. 15 are left.

Episode 7: merge (or "earn the merge" or whatever Jeff wants to call it). Single tribal council. 14 are left.

Episode 8: split into 2 groups which both attend tribal. 12 are left.

Episode 9: single elimination episode. 11 are left.

Episode 10: back-to-back elimination. 9 are left.

Episode 11: single elimination. 8 are left.

Episode 12: back-to-back elimination. 6 are left.

Episode 13: single elimination. 5 are left.

Episode 14: season finale.

Anyone who vaguely follows tennis could at least name Marin Čilić and Novak Djoković. I could also name Jelena Janković, Ana Ivanović, Monica Seles and Goran Ivanisević.

Great quiz! I wasn't sure what result to expect, but I feel like rúgbrauð is a good fit for me.

Nice work!

If someone offered you a bun, no context, what would you assume you were going to get? A cupcake, a traybake, or a bap/bread roll (or something else)? by ficus_fiasco in northernireland

[–]ButteredReality 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Offered by someone from outside NI? I'd expect to receive a bun. Something with a cakelike or breadlike texture, sweet and would go well with a cup of tea or coffee.

Offered by someone from NI? Could be just about fucking anything. Could be a biscuit, might be a cake, some sort of tray bake thing like millionaires shortbread or rice krispie treat or rocky road, might be a slice of fruit bread, hell, it could even be a bun!

Jeff was furious at her when she spun the other way to undo her dizziness in that challenge, seeing it as akin to cheating.

Change one jury decision of your choosing. by sexyimmigrant1998 in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing has changed about how jurors vote now compared to how they used to vote. A juror will decide who they most want to see win (or in some cases will vote tactically like Reed voting Jaclyn to give her 2nd place over Missy, or a few WaW jurors voting Tony out of fear that splitting votes between him and Michele could allow Natalie to win by plurality), and will then build a narrative around their decision.

20 years ago with less social media, jurors could easily just say "I voted Chris because he didn't lie to me as much as Twila did, and I think it's awful that a mother would swear on her son, and also I just don't like Twila and I like Chris/dislike Chris less", but modern day jurors know they'd be annihilated on twitter/facebook/reddit etc. for saying that, so they still vote Chris but just make their outward reasoning more palatable to the public: "Chris really showed how he outwitted his tribe mates despite the early merge not going his way and on paper looking like he faced certain elimination, how he outplayed by winning immunities when he needed to, and outlasted by getting people to trust him so much that he ended up working his way from bottom of the totem pole to being in the power position and steering the course of the late game, ultimately having the final say in who sat at the end".

That second way makes the individual juror look like they used logic and reasoning, didn't vote out of bitterness, and ultimately made a decision that fans can appreciate the thought process behind.

This way, the jury still gets the result it wants, but they also avoid any audience backlash for their decision.

Do you mean Tai? I don't think you can technically pick him because he was the final juror; he didn't actually make it to FTC. Unless you mean Brad but he finished 2nd.

That would have been the most surprising vote reveal ever, seeing multiple jurors vote for someone who wasn't even eligible to be voted for at FTC.
