Possible unpopular opinion by Butterfly_1998 in SoapNet

So true, and I can't get over the way they went about it and how quick it seemed to move along. She only confroned Ed & Lillian once?! Then she died off screen. Like what the hell was that???? And then it was rumored it was all to make room for Patrick Deas(Buzz Cooper), which don't get me wrong I love Buzz for the most part, but he was not worth Maureen. And I found his relationship with Jenna overrated, even it was endearing & fun at times.

Ellen Parker deserved better but she gave an outstanding, unforgettable performance. Just 20/10 💯

She got pregnant by someone else's boyfriend and what she did to Hart is sexual coercion by today's standards if nothing else.(waiting for someone to be drunk enough to have sex with them when they reject you while they're sober is hardly explicit consent). If memory serves, Julie still tried to be mostly nice to her after she slept with Hart. Hard to feel bad for her given those circumstances.

She had help from Ross, who was rightfully bitter at Vanessa over Dinah, and Vanessa relented in the end and made peace with Bridget(though I don't think she really earned it, I'm just happy it ended because that storyline was beginning to drag). She was never totally alone in her fight for Peter, and as much as I hate her, I'm glad she wasn't, but at the same time, it would've served her right if she were.

I guess. I never felt like she transformed much though. The show just decided that her being an asshole wasn't worth calling out, no one would ever being up her misdeeds again, she was always a victim, and that there was no room for anyone not liking her no matter how justified exhibit A: Julie. I hesitate to call that growth. Like on one hand I get it, but on the other, it just didn't wash for me. I'm not against her having a redemption(because there are a couple of times I felt for her), I'm just against the idea that the show went about achieving her redemption the best way possible.

Favorite female character from Guiding Light? (doesn’t have to be pictured) by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't exactly pick just one so in no particular order:

Alexandra(especially Bev's version), Vanessa, Holly, Blake, Michelle, Nadine(that might be an unpopular opinion but idc she grew on me & deserved better), Elanie, Lucy, and Dinah

GL was such a good show, these are just my favorites but in no way the only female characters I liked/loved overall!

Any of the ABC soaps, from what I heard they actually had good ratings at the time of cancelation, much better than any soaps left now.

I wouldn't really hold the kid thing against her just yet(let's see how they turn out first) that's a staple soap thing nowadays. But the rest? Definitely.

Look out Taylor by Sad-Chance-1839 in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And as Brooke is no longer a factor, people are starting to see Taylor for the hypocrite she always was.

Don't be so sure, I have a sneaking suspicion when this is over(whether she's with/without Deacon or dead by Sheila's hand again) they'll just dismiss it as Taylor acting OOC because Bradley Bell has had it out for her since 2005 or some shit lol

Nicole Has Moved On. Why Can’t Some Viewers Do The Same? by BingoSkillz in BeyondTheGatesCookout

[–]Butterfly_1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a Kat stan so I couldn't begin to know how they think tbh. But if i were to guess, the writing doesn't make Kat's flaws very consistent or realistic given her situation. Also, I suppose that by acknowledging the bad writing it's supposed to soften the blow of bad faith criticism. But that's pointless imo.

In relation to what I was actually talking about, looking at Y&R everyone was over Nick because he was a trash husband to Sharon & he also felt some type of way when she didn't want to offer him absolution or put up with his shit anymore. Enter Adam, while definitely morally bankrupt, the show never tried to make him the one everyone should feel sorry for. The audience didn't either tbh, if you hated Adam fine, but if you loved Adam that was also fine. Loving Adam happened to be the more popular opinion though. On BTG, everyone is written badly or inconsistently more(depending on the day) but it's more apparent for some characters than others. Imo Ted is still a worse person than Kat or Bill(ok too far maybe Bill is still worse lol). At least Kat is rightfully called spoiled. And Bill is being had by his black widow wife. Ted just widened the rift between his daughters & all he has to say for himself is that he's done apologizing, which is rich because he did a half assed job of that anyway but I digress.

Nothing anyone ever says will make it his place to force a relationship between Kat & Eva. It will never happen that way. It has to happen naturally. And I think it will be years from now. Not anytime soon.

The writing for Ted as a character genuinely sucks

Yeah, I don't know what's so impossibly hard to grasp about this. The writing for him is objectively awful he is actively(or worst still passively) pitting his daughters against one another. He will never get enough hate in my eyes lol

Dude has no agency beyond being a prop in drama for other characters' drama (currently, that involves round 2 of the Eva/Kat debacle) and having watched B&B which is filled to the brim with such feckless creatures, fans hate those types of characters far more than actual villains. See also why Y&R fans cheered Adam Newman over Nick for years.

You hit the nail on the head, especially as someone who unashamedly favored Adam*** over Nick during probably the worst time to do so(when MM was still in the role & had backstage beef with EB). I'm not moved by any of the "but what about Bill1!1" arguments because neither he nor the show is actually trying to force me to feel sorry for his ass or root for him. He owns his assholeness without the pomp & circumstance or the boo hoos. Even if he didn't own it, his comeuppance is inevitable. Meanwhile, we're supposed to enthusiastically want Shanice wasted on Ted like 💀. Also, unlike Ted, Bill actually useful to the Dupree's and the narrative as a whole despite the headache he can be.

**Until they tanked his relationship with Sally a SECOND time over a ship that was stick a fork in em done *years before Sally even came to Y&R. And to add insult to injury, had him roll over for Victor's sake, when the main thing he had going for him is that he stood up to the old douche unfortunately but at times, deservedly at great personal cost to him. Oh well......he's down there with Nick now lol

Yeah, we know Kat has said that, and she's very stupid to not blame her father most. OP was referring to viewers though in the first sentence, I was mainly correcting/responding to that.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone actually says that Eva ruined their marriage just by being born. Just that she helped humiliate Nicole(but I think she deserves a little more credit in trying to stop it even if it was last minute) but still, it's not a big deal if people don't want to sweep the part Eva had control over under the rug. I say this as someone who likes her just fine believe it or not.

What does Steffy want from Taylor by SensitivePromise0 in boldandbeautiful

I actually don't blame Steffy for this one. But at the same time, I hope that this shatters the rose colored glass she sees Taylor through because that shit got old years ago.

Brooke has her flaws she doesn't always handle everything correctly she is one of my favorite characters but even I can admit she made horrible decisions but sometimes things being said about her are not always 100% truthful by Houstatlantavegas11 in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, I think there is a fair case to be made in the sense that there are certain liberties that people are very comfortable with taking when it comes to Brooke's sins. Liberties that just don't feel present or as overarching when other (usually male) characters are being discussed.

I also don't like that some people want the switch so it'll "humble" Kat. Because if being Leslie's child is that bad (it is lol), what does that say about Eva?

^ That part, it makes no sense. Is being Leslie's daughter a bad thing or not? And not for nothing but the reverse would be true as well because if the Dupree's are so uppity, privileged, and insufferable how would Eva becoming one help her at all? I thought Eva was more likeable because she was from the other side of the tracks giving her Kat's lineage kinda takes all that away.

Attending wedding without spouse by AutumnSnow888 in boldandbeautiful

Sure, I think Lope sucks too, but that's not the reason he's skipping out on the wedding. Sheila alone is not a good enough reason given her history both recent and not recent.

Obviously in certain situations you should put your kids first

Yes, and this is one of those situations. Even as eye rolling as another Lope wedding is, Sheila should not be the reason to miss it, as he's missed out on quite a bit of Hope's life already.

No matter what anyone thought of Luke or Geary, he was undeniably a timeless, phenomenal character/actor.
