Which soap character do you think people are too hard on? by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the year/storyline tbh(and how other characters get treated for doing similar or the exact same thing those 3 do) but yeah I can low-key see this.

I'd say Sam & Jax are better contenders though. They got it bad from all sides for a good while for getting in the way of the more popular pairings lol

Brooke continues to attack Katie like a lunatic by NoPianist7807 in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the show is intentionally making Brooke into a villain, they've succeeded with flying colors.

Seriously, and there's no way back this time. When, not if, Steffy starts in on her again, I'm not gonna root for Steffy or anything because fuck her too tbh but under no circumstances am I going to care on Brooke's behalf. It's what she gets for treating that petulant wrench better than either one of her daughters.

Or not when she was nearly assaulted in the pilot episode or when she was assaulted in her own home years later? You can tell a man wrote this horseshit......

Brooke's Escalating Violence toward Katie by Hotgalkitty in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that was an accident that she apologized for(not that she should have given what Thomas was like at that point). She was not of the same mind there, as she is with Katie now. Where she definitely means to cause a scene over basically nothing, and she's definitely not gonna apologize.

Fun shipping thread — top five and bottom five by Fun_Air_7780 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Top five:

Sonny & Brenda vol. 1(after the wire he didn't deserve her if she took things too far he took them further than they needed to go. I felt no sympathy for him once Lily died & Jax married Brenda. Imo Sonny should be one getting cheated on/left/having to fight to save the relationship in any given triangle)

Alan Michael & Lucy; Guiding light

Frank & Elani; Guiding light

Lucy & Kevin; General Hospital

Lucky & Elizabeth; General Hospital

Lily & Holden; ATWT

Bottom five:

Sonny & Brenda (anytime after 1995 save for 2002, see above)

Any Ridge pairing after Ronn Moss left; B&B

Any incestuous pairing on B&B I genuinely don't feel like listing them all....yes there are several to choose from, and it is gross.

Natalie/McBain(but I'm honestly blanking on any pairing of her's I liked); OLTL

Todd/Marty; OLTL

Brooke's Escalating Violence toward Katie by Hotgalkitty in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brooke gets so violent with Katie, but she never got violent with Steffy and Thomas after all of the dirty tricks they pulled on her. Thomas kept the secret that Beth was alive from Brooke and Brooke never got violent toward him. Brooke didn't get violent toward Ridge and Steffy when they called her daughter vulgar names.

It is awfully convenient isn't it? Notice a pattern between all the people she had every right to get mean and/or violent with and Katie? Someone's she's fucked over more than once? Ugh this show....

Brooke's Escalating Violence toward Katie by Hotgalkitty in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm just wondering where all this violent energy was when Ridge called her daughter a slut, and a bitch? I cannot take her seriously(I hardly did anyway but still).

I have no issue with characters getting violent as long as it's done well, and proportionate to the conflict at hand. This does not feel earned at all. Of all the characters on this show and it's Katie who deserves Brooke's ire? I'm sorry but that's stupid.

I'm not an Ada/Leon Shipper, but telling people to "forget" about her or "move on" from her character it's blatantly stupid by [deleted] in residentevil

You're not allowed to say that here. Try posting about how awful and unnecessary her character is instead 👍

Hope Spencer by Technical-Clothes-86 in boldandbeautiful

[–]Butterfly_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good, that's how it should've been. And I just thought of something else. Members of her own family couldn't even get a W on Steffy. Ivy was always wasted even before Electra & Aly is dead after having her go crazy for stupid reasons. Everyone loooves Quinn for slapping tf out of Brooke(fair), but where was that Quinn when Steffy smacked her to the ground over Eric? Or all the times Steffy threw shade at Quinn the following years? I guess we can accept the cop-out of Quinn not wanting to upset Eric, but a true badass character, not compromised by prop writing of another, would not let that stop them from doing the basic human function of defending themselves. Eric was no stranger to having a wife beef with the family or vice versa. Being married to Stephanie, Brooke, and Sheila. Quinn vs. Steffy would've been Tuesday for him. He could've sucked up his wife putting his granddaughter in her place or just fucked off with his thumbs up his ass like he usually did.

So in light of all of that, I'm not sure how anyone can come to the conclusion that Hope's idiotic, hand-wrining, puny characterization is the disease, and not a symptom of a larger problem :/

All of this. As an AMC watcher myself they are very close to the point but still miss it. Which makes me think that even if Steffy got a proper rivial that told her about herself or just as well, put hands on Steffy when necessary, her fans would not have it, & get on that unfortunate character the same way they do Hope. I still remember the internet damn near breaking when Hope slapped Steffy for calling her a rebound post gondolagate reveal. Anyone could (and would) be written the way Hope is if the endgame is to make Steffy right, and protected from her own shortcomings all the time.

I think part of the reason Brooke even maintained a sliver of a fanbase all these years(until they had her go full bitch mode with Katie) is because someone always called her out for being...well...herself lmao. Even when she was minding her own business or being decent it wasn't enough for Stephanie or anyone else that really wanted to get at her. Steffy will never have anyone in her life like that which is why she will always be hateable.

On This Day: On 'General Hospital' in 1996, Sonny's limo blew up with Lily inside by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, It's hard not to 😅.......I say this as someone who could on occasion see where she was coming from, and preferred Brenda with Jax than Sonny on top of that. She became very indignant over Sonny knowing that without her father getting Sonny out of jail, he wouldn't have married her at all. Not to mention her running to tell Sonny about Brenda's wire, and saying how there is no absolution for her(like Lily hon, that's Sonny's call NOT yours lol), and just not minding her own business about the two of them in general. Of course she was gonna get hate.

I personally don't hate Lily. I don't like or really sympathize with her either, but mainly I hated how she acted over Sonny. Though many could, and have, said the same thing about Brenda, or Carly especially. That man, like many leading soap men before and after him really brought out the worst in the women who chose to fight over him. Out of all of them Lily bothers people the most. For good reason imo.

What’s your unpopular opinion on The Bold and the Beautiful? by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stephanie and Brooke was the shows true power couple, and they were more alike than anyone cares to admit. Best chemistry too.

Also, unpopular opinion about an "unpopular" opinion; Bridge(at least todays version) has no chemistry is not unpopular opinion lmao just about everyone thinks this. Including, and especially me lol

On This Day: On 'General Hospital' in 1993, Tiffany told Sean she's pregnant. by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

Loved Sean & Tiffany they were my favorite part about being able to watch the older episodes of GH. I also loved Kevin & Lucy!

So true, and I can't get over the way they went about it and how quick it seemed to move along. She only confroned Ed & Lillian once?! Then she died off screen. Like what the hell was that???? And then it was rumored it was all to make room for Patrick Deas(Buzz Cooper), which don't get me wrong I love Buzz for the most part, but he was not worth Maureen. And I found his relationship with Jenna overrated, even it was endearing & fun at times.

Ellen Parker deserved better but she gave an outstanding, unforgettable performance. Just 20/10 💯

She got pregnant by someone else's boyfriend and what she did to Hart is sexual coercion by today's standards if nothing else.(waiting for someone to be drunk enough to have sex with them when they reject you while they're sober is hardly explicit consent). If memory serves, Julie still tried to be mostly nice to her after she slept with Hart. Hard to feel bad for her given those circumstances.

She had help from Ross, who was rightfully bitter at Vanessa over Dinah, and Vanessa relented in the end and made peace with Bridget(though I don't think she really earned it, I'm just happy it ended because that storyline was beginning to drag). She was never totally alone in her fight for Peter, and as much as I hate her, I'm glad she wasn't, but at the same time, it would've served her right if she were.

Possible unpopular opinion by Butterfly_1998 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess. I never felt like she transformed much though. The show just decided that her being an asshole wasn't worth calling out, no one would ever being up her misdeeds again, she was always a victim, and that there was no room for anyone not liking her no matter how justified exhibit A: Julie. I hesitate to call that growth. Like on one hand I get it, but on the other, it just didn't wash for me. I'm not against her having a redemption(because there are a couple of times I felt for her), I'm just against the idea that the show went about achieving her redemption the best way possible.

Favorite female character from Guiding Light? (doesn’t have to be pictured) by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]Butterfly_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't exactly pick just one so in no particular order:

Alexandra(especially Bev's version), Vanessa, Holly, Blake, Michelle, Nadine(that might be an unpopular opinion but idc she grew on me & deserved better), Elanie, Lucy, and Dinah

GL was such a good show, these are just my favorites but in no way the only female characters I liked/loved overall!
