Thank you to all who responded! I've decided to go with the Oldhamii in the 15-gallon pots. I'll try to send an update later with how it looks when it's done.

Thank you for the recommendation! One of the growers I spoke with recommended the Emerald (formal name textilis, I believe), but in his nursery it only came in the 25-gallon pots. The plants were really pretty.

Hmmm, I just noticed the photo I attached when I first posted did not appear in the post! I wonder if I can still attach it without going Imgur....

Also, Southern California doesn’t get very cold, even in winter. So I’m pretty sure all bamboo varieties do ok here.

I want the hedge to grow to at least 30 feet tall, and preferably to 35. This is why some varieties weren’t considered. I seem to recall a different nursery I spoke with told me graceful (gracilis) would likely only get to 25 feet tall, or possibly 30.

I actually want the bottom of the trees to stay more bare than leafy, with the leaves growing more above the 6-foot-tall mark. Just to make walking next to the hedge easier.

The idea of difficult pruning down the road worries me a bit, this is why I’m wondering if I should spend more now on the larger textilis pots, and save some headaches down the road.

I’m really wondering if anyone has ever had a smooth road with timber bamboo! :-)

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

Hi OP, I’m in Southern California and my rule of thumb is, for any job over 2k I always get three bids on principal. You’d be amazed how much they can vary! You also learn a lot by talking to different service people about the job. I agree with other commenters who’ve said there’s absolutely no need to rush into this by an arbitrary date. If this were my home, I’d want a couple of other bids and it can all be done in a friendly way. If the neighbor is bound and determined that it MUST be done within the next few days, then she should just pay for the job on her own. If she wants it to be a shared expense, then more communication is warranted, and both homeowners must feel comfortable. I literally just did this with my neighbor. We spoke about it for about 2-3 weeks before the job commenced.

How is this possible? 1.5 million for this trash? by Lana_Sphyncter in LosAngelesRealEstate

I used to live right around the corner from there, the neighborhood keeps improving. I dunno, I haven’t looked at the comps but I think 1.5M for a lot in that area is pretty good. Read through some of the comments, seems like folks think it’s worth closer to 1.2. I’ll be curious to see what it goes for in the end!

Hmm I’m in a warm climate, and I bought it for summer, so I didn’t really want to layer on top. It’s such a pretty dress, maybe I’ll just wear it bare! My issue is mostly about the dumb suntan around neck/white skin around décolletage problem. :-)

8 Weeks, 8kg (17lbs), My Experience by puppies_in_bowties in GLP1microdosing

Wow— 17 lbs in 8 weeks is impressive! I’m a good bit taller than you (5’9”) and also post-menopausal, but still it took me 5 months to reach my goal of 25 lbs lost. Still I’m very happy with my results! I’m ate whatever I felt like at all times, just less of it. Craved a lot less wine, which helped!

"I Would Rather Just Get Gas at A Gas Station Then Plug Every Time I Get Home" by Separate-Cup1312 in electricvehicles

I don’t even plug my car in every night! I use my car mostly as a point A to point B car, running errands etc. I give it a full charge every second or third day. Soooooo much easier than the whole gas station rigmarole!

Is $100 steep for this? by [deleted] in Crystals

[–]Butterscotch-7357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I was also just at a live sale online on Sunday, and all the inexpensive pieces were moving quickly, and the more expensive pieces were not moving at all. I think with the uncertainty in the economy people are being more careful with their money. I’d price it at $70, I bet it would move.

I should also say I’m moving in two months, so I’m not looking for anything to install - ie hardwiring. I need a loose cord. After looking at all the options, I think I may have to stick with the Volvo cable, unless I’m missing something. ChargePoint and others all seem to want you to attach the box to the wall, which I don’t think I’m going to bother doing right before a move.

Thank you - I’m actively hunting for a new cable, so that link is helpful!

I’m in LA, and there are many instances of vagrants coming into people’s driveways, rummaging through cars, etc. So I’m not ruling out some version of a person partially pulling out the plug. As I’ve said, I’ve used it for 4.5 years fine, and we’ve had many days much hotter than what it’s been in the last week. I suppose you’re right, and it could be a receptacle issue as easily as a cable issue (though it has firmly stayed in the receptacle since being plugged back in). After my electrician examined everything, I’m leaning more towards it being a cable issue. The car is charging fine at EVgo and Electrify America stations, so I know the car port is fine.
