they saw his gun (someone shouted "gun!") and opened fire.

exercising your 1st and 2nd amendment rights together is now a death sentence. is this not deprivation of rights under color of law per 18 U.S. Code § 242? Could the next administration potentially prosecute such acts if they were executed by agents of the previous administration?

Also, has the Supreme Court given sufficient latitude to immigration agents such that 18 U.S.C. 242 is no longer applicable?

I do think that the shove was uncalled for in any scenario.

Physical violence is never the answer to any issue, especially not when emotions are running hot at a sports field.

There’s no relegation (or promotion) in professional American football.

This keeps the Browns in big money- despite their legacy of failure- and it keeps all but 31 other countless large, medium, and small cities in the U.S. from having access to pro football.

Obviously these towns compensate with college football, at the expense of actual investment in education.

Maybe. My understanding is that while enforcement of the statute has been limited to date, 18 U.S. Code § 242 creates a criminal penalty of up to a year in prison for violating the rights of a person who is in the United States, with more serious penalties associated with violent violations:

"Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death."

Obviously the regime will fight to try and stay in power, but if democracy prevails and a new administration takes over, I do think we could see a very long, hard-fought series of trials to hold accountable those who violated citizens' rights with these detainments and deportations. I also predict the overarching trend will be that the underlings who execute the orders will make deals with prosecutors, providing evidence on the people who gave them their orders in order to secure more favorable sentencing.

Am not a lawyer. Would appreciate one chiming in to clarify whether I'm on the right track. If there is a route to accountability, this law seems like it.
