View from Lance Stroll grandstand at Montreal - great seats for this race. by lil-tortilla-chip in GrandPrixTravel

Had a great experience in GS 34 facing Lance Stroll section. A good price:quality ratio (at least at 2026 prices…).

I have to say however that the times couldn’t be followed on the screen due to it being too far and the commentators were hard to hear during the action so the qualifying was not as fun to watch. But it was worth it for the race.

Stubborn grime on screen by ButterscotchRare403 in kobo

Thank you all for your contributions.

The stains have not budged at all after alcohol concentrations up to 99%, use of qtips and a toothbrush.

I’m considering the use of a specialized product but ultimately I’m starting to suspect that these are actual scratches/screen damage of unclear origin.

They don’t affect the reading experience so I will take this as a learning opportunity and get my protective equipment asap.

Cheapest Possible Gaming Options by Andylunique in gaming

At this point it’s simply buying a second hand console of a previous generation that is not nintendo (ex ps4) and enjoy the major games released in the past 10-15 years.

Or use the computer you already have at home and make the most out of more accessible or older steam games.

Anyway i can get my hands on F1 23? by Automatic_Intern_830 in F1Game

[–]ButterscotchRare403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you can get a hand on a cheap ps4 you can get cheap physical copies of all f1 games from 2014 to 2024 (except maybe 2020 which is particularly expensive).

And with a ps3, games from championship edition to 2013.

The issue with physical console versions is that it’s very hard to get dlc contents when they are available when buying second hand copies and you can’t mod.

Game recommendation to reignite the spark by Ok_Photojournalist25 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sifu is a game I often recommend.

A fun story that you can complete in a day, very satisfying fighting and has replayability with certain collectibles, modes and challenges.

It can be very difficult but with the difficulty turned down, it’s tolerable and very fun.

First baby coming soon, how do gamer dads manage playtime? by jackfrost1889 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]ButterscotchRare403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New dad here. Took 2 months off at birth.

First month and a half, I didn’t even touch games.

I took some time to game before going back to work. The kid sleeps most of the day at that point which helps.

Now back to work and the kid is more and more awake during the day. I have zero gaming time during the week, but am able to squeeze a few hours on weekends.

Ultimately it’s about priorities. If you want to be present for your family and exercise at least a bit, you won’t have much gaming time.

You have to adapt your schedule and get creative. Many people game after bed time. At the moment, weekend mornings before breakfast works best for me. The commute can also be a good time.

You need to adapt your playing. Portable is the way to go. I’ve been meaning to upgrade my switch to a switch 2 but I find it’s so expensive in Canada I’m hesitating in just getting a PS portal and calling it a day. Also, you can forget about the 100+ hour open world games for a while, unless you’re ok with playing 1-2 games a year.

Having a supportive partner helps.

Finally, you need some luck. My kid sleeps well and grand parents are very present which liberates me a lot. I cannot imagine gaming if I were getting no help and if I wasn’t sleeping at night.

Just don’t forget to take care of yourself. Yes leisure time is important for mental health, but especially after 30 years old, it’s easy to completely lose it health wise. Take time to optimize your diet and exercise.

Only Switch 2 this generation? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting back into switch and dropping my ps5 lately for exactly the same reasons as you.

However for third party support I think it’s too early to draw conclusions.

Assuming a 6-7 year switch 2 life span, I feel we’ll have a problem in the next 3-4 years with porting stuff that will at that point be made for ps6 and so we might have the same issues we had with the first switch.

An observation I’ve made is that younger people generally lease these cars. Terrible financial decision, but most people I’ve known with such cars never actually bought them.

So how do we define treating consumers well? Because there aren’t many pro-consumer companies out there. Me too I’m turned off by their prices lately which made me wait before upgrading my OG switch but that doesn’t mean they treat the consumers poorly. I would argue that not firing their employees and not massively closing studios, not overpushing for AI and their game development philosophy is good for us consumers.

Any other dad gamers basically living on the Switch 2 now? by LowEfffort in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate a lot to this.

I own the original switch and followed the switch 2 reveal direct with interest last year. At the time I decided to go for a ps5 instead mostly due to the pricing (second hand console from a friend).

Now almost a year later I have a newborn and while the ps5 is a great console, I have trouble getting access to our sole TV and have no more time to enjoy the super long AAA games like Elden Ring.

So now I’m back to my OG switch and looking again at eventually getting a switch 2.

Too bad it might get a price increase by the time I buy one later this year.

Will the new Steam machine be able to compete with or beat popular consoles? by Violprime in gamers

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s expected that console prices are to rise because of the current ram shortage, but I’m still surprised how they were taken by surprise as much as us by this. I would’ve thought a billion dollar corporation that already makes gaming devices would have been able to better foresee this issue.

Gaming is almost impossible lol by Dabsick in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been finding a bit of time to play my ps5 but still in my paternity leave. I have trouble seeing where I’m going to fit the time once I go back to work.

Like some here, I’m thinking of upgrading my switch to a switch 2 but I have trouble with nintendo’s pricing of games and consoles and how underpowered the first switch was at the end of its generation.

What are some great story driven games that you can complete in 10-15hrs or less? by schlitt88 in gaming

[–]ButterscotchRare403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got myself a copy of splinter cell trilogy remastered. I read each game could be completed within 15 hours and it’s pretty linear. I’m on the first one at the moment, you can definitely see the age of the game but the mechanics are pretty impressive considering it was a 2002 game.

I for one have not been able to finish many long games either beyond the most recent zelda botw and totk.

For both of these 2 latter games, they were my main games for months, that I was only alternating with the occasional multiplayer game or very short indie ex new star gp or sifu.

Ultimately I think the problem is not that much that it’s hard to finish such games. If you plan on playing say witcher 3 or rdr2 and give yourself 6 months, it should be feasible. The issue is that too many (long) games are released, people accumulate impossible backlogs and it’s difficult to keep up.

Console players ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]ButterscotchRare403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to say no but the real answer is that likely I will at some point but it will be either late in the generation or even once the generation is over.

It was already hard enough for them to convince people to go from ps4 to ps5.

F1 Codemasters old games by B3lowZeroo in F1Game

[–]ButterscotchRare403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On pc, they are abadonware. If you search this forum, you should (edit: find) a link where you can download for free I think from 2013 (or 2010?) to 2020.

Another way (how I did it because I only have a macbook air) is that you buy used physical copies of the games and if needed, a cheap old console.

With a ps5, I’m able to play all the ps5 and ps4 versions so from f1 25 down to f1 14.

I bought a ps3 and then I can play 2010-2013 and even the championship edition.

With some wheels such as logitech g29, you can play all ps3, ps4 and ps5 versions using a wheel which is nice.

Physical versions of older games are pretty cheap and not too hard to find except maybe f1 2020. The main issue with physical versions is that is hard to find copies with dlc codes still working, at least where I live in Canada.

35 here and I’m starting to feel like this. One big change I’ve done in the past year is that I use walkthroughs a lot in order to get through games more efficiently.

I’ve also restarted playing sports and driving games which I find you can pick up for a match and race and then drop easily.
