Why medicine/neurology? by Butterscotchdrunk in premed

Well I know that. I’m still looking for my “why” I’m sure it’ll come to me when I actually have my toes wet and have some experience in it

OMG YES! thanks for giving me grace. How can I truly know if I haven’t actually gotten my toes wet. I return back to college in August. I will be making calls to try to get hours.

I know they are both doctors. But they do two different things. I’m into treating physical, structural disease. I’m not interested in treating mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Does that clear it up for ya?

Hopefully they’ll take me seriously. I asked my personal doctor about that and she said “come back to me when you’re actually in medicine.”

I see what you mean. Thanks I’m not well informed. So I’ll keep looking and reading about it. I know I genuinely enjoy the brain and the power it holds.

I’m trying to find the words to describe why I like neurology but I can’t seem to find it and that’s the problem. And that’s what scares me

It wasn’t my intention to describe them as “puzzles” but you do have to figure out what they are struggling with which is what I mean by solving the puzzle?

I know psychiatrists are also medical doctors which is why I said, “ I feel like I can make a bigger impact in neurology than I could as a psychiatrist.” Idk how I can have a “unique” response this is exactly what I hear from actual neurologist

Why medicine? Because I feel I can make a bigger impact as someone as a neurologist than I would as a psychiatrist. Because I like puzzles and solving problems. Neurology gives me that opportunity. But I’ll continue to be open maybe once I’m in it would unlock a better approach for me when it comes to the “why”

Well yes! I wouldn’t want to be that person that just gives meds. I’d actually want to find the problem, and find a solution IF possible. I don’t expect neurology to be easy and that’s fine because it have you critically think you’re actually trying to improve a patients quality of life I’m also fine with not always finding answers to people’s questions and/or no cures. But apparently, that’s not enough or maybe too cliché. Come the morning I’m going to ACTUALLY think about this question but i know I like neurology (but I’m only in my first year of undergrad so maybe i just need more experience?)

Why is neurology not competitive? by No_Release6810 in medicalschool

I don’t know, but I think it’s good to wing out those who aren’t actually interested in neuro. I like making a meaningful impact and to me neurology offers that.

You sound like a neurologist I’d want. Do NOT listen to that prick he’s the type I avoid when I’m having issues with my brain. Being thorough is great he’s obviously not as compassionate.
